Follow-up Question on (FSSRA-8260) Abuse reported for artifact 145532376
Hello,
Thank you so much for your service at FamilySearch Help. I'd like to follow up on a case that a distant cousin of mine submitted about displaying Temple Ordinances in Family Tree. Help Articles 1532 and 978 seem to indicate we shouldn't enter Temple Ordinance information anywhere in Family Tree. Yet, Article 1038 only mentions name cards should not be added to Memories. If we're asked to not create custom events with ordinance dates and temples, it would be consistent to not add memories that contain the same information. I hope you can clear up my confusion. Here's a copy of the email my cousin received.

Subject: (FSSRA-8260) Abuse reported for artifact 145532376
Dear
Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Uploading family group sheets, which are not official Temple Records, is not against Terms of Use. When Official Temple Records are a part of the memory, it will be removed. We are investigating the recently uploaded memories from this contributor and appropriate action will be taken.
Sincerely,
FamilySearch Data Administration

(1) Recently another patron explained to me that they had removed a Family Group Sheet from the memories section of one of my ancestors because it showed sensitive temple ordinance data, which violated a FS policy (which she copied for me).

Hello and thank you for posting your question about what is appropriate to post in FamilySearch Memories.
Our rules for what is and is not appropriate include the following:
When a photo or document image is inappropriate, FamilySearch marks the memory item as "Restricted" and sends you an email message. If you believe this restriction is an error, reply to the email message you received, and provide an explanation. Your reply goes directly to the team that reviewed and screened your memory item.
Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints should not upload sacred or private items to FamilySearch Memories. Examples are below:
- Patriarchal blessings
- Membership record numbers
- Pictures of temple garments or temple clothing
- Family name cards
The entire article is posted below. Please read through it for additional details that may be useful in answering your question.
Thank you and best of success with your family history work.

Just to clarify, is it appropriate to list temple ordinance information (date and temple) in a memory? There are two help articles that seem to indicate we shouldn't.
Can I add an ordinance as a custom event in Family Tree?
Article Id: 1532
April 20, 2020
Do not add temple ordinance information to any section of the Family Tree. Family Tree is accessible by the public. Do not record temple ordinances or other sacred material on Family Tree in the Notes, as an Other Event, or in any other place on Family Tree.
How do I report abuse, spam, inappropriate memories, and other content?
Article Id: 978
April 20, 2020
Abuse of FamilySearch also involves posting patriarchal blessings or ordinances of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in any of these places:
Discussions
Notes
Memories
Life Sketch
If we have been asked to not include temple ordinance information as an event in the Other section, why would it be alright to include it in a memory? Please help me understand this discrepancy.
Thanks,
Lisa Ratzlaff

I am just another 'lowly' User/Patron ...
[ And, I happen to be a Member of the Church ... ]
Just in passing ...
Please be aware; and, advised, that ...
It is NOT alright, to include Documents, pertaining to Temple" Work, in the Memories" 'Tab' of individuals, in "Public" view.
But ...
That Said ...
It IS possible, to include Documents, pertaining to Temple" Work, in the Memories" 'Tab' of individuals, IF (and, ONLY "IF") one makes those "Memories"; as, "Private" - ie. NOT able to be 'seen' by OTHER Users/Patrons.
Here is a "Knowledge Article", in 'FamilySearch'"
What are private memories?
https://www.familysearch.org/en/help/helpcenter/article/what-are-private-memories
Where, it states:
Quote
------------------
Private memories are photos, stories, documents, or audio files that a contributor has chosen to make private.
By default, the memories you add to FamilySearch are publicly viewable. You can change that setting and make any memory you have added private (See How do I make a memory private?).
FAQs
How do I make a memory private?
Individual memories can be made private on the individual memory page. Groups of memories can be made private in the Memories gallery. See How do I make a memory private?
Are private memories really private?
Yes. Private memories are viewable only by the contributor who changed the view setting to “Private.”
Does the Find feature in Memories find private memories?
No. Once a memory is marked as private, it won’t show up in search results.
Is it OK to add memories about living people?
Yes, but be sure anything you contribute pertains to your immediate family or that you have permission from others to share their living photos and stories. (See Submission Agreement.) Contributing your own life story is important because no one can tell it better than you. It is one of the greatest gifts you can leave for others.
Can I share my private photos with other family members?
No. Only public photos can be shared at this time.
Should I go through and set all my memories to “Private”?
Memories provides a place for people to share and preserve important family memories. To fulfill that purpose, most memory items should remain public. The private option is for memories that may contain sensitive information or information about living people that you feel should not be public.
------------------
But ...
That Said ...
Even then, with the ability/availability, of the feature/facility/function, of "Private Memories" ...
The best practice, would be ...
NOT to include Documents, pertaining to Temple" Work, in the Memories" 'Tab' of individuals/person ...
Period ...
Just my thoughts.
I know, that this certainly may not help/assist; but, I hope, that this may provide you with, some additional, insight; and, perspective; and, another avenue to pursue.

I believe I understand the Help Articles. What are my options if a distant cousin adds a memory that contains Temple Ordinance information? Data Administration won't remove it because it isn't considered Abuse. Would I be out of line to detach the memory?
