If a file number has been crossed off, and another one has been stamped next to it, does that make it amended?

@Angie Marie Whiteley For the Wisconsin Pre-1907 project, Amended Certificates are those with hand-written information crossed out and new information replacing it such as the name of the child or an incorrect spelling, date, etc and those that are stamped "corrected information ......" On all of these images, the hand-written file number has been crossed out or a stamped number has been added, usually beginning with 1 or more zeros example- 00253 - index the stamped file number only. Do not index the zeros. Happy indexing! 😎 ps - the project examples are not really clear

It's hard to give a precise answer without seeing the image. But from the description of a number being crossed out and replaced (rather than the usual stamped number being over or near the written number) the example I gave shows that if a stampled number is crossed off and another is stamped, that's an amendment.

I would not mark it as amended if no information was changed or crossed out. It may have been they were waiting for the parents to give them a birth name but had not filed the form yet. We have no way of knowing.

This example is in the Project Instructions: https://www.familysearch.org/indexing/images?fs-cache=true&key=idx-deepzoom-image&image=8681d7f6-ad3c-44a6-beab-fe9df041af51

The instruction you showed me stated it wasn't an amendment.

Angie, if you look at that example, it has a red box and 8 by the scribbled out number. In the indexed fields it says:

    "8. Amended Indicator: Y

Note that information has been crossed out or rewritten. This is why the Amended Flag field was marked Y for "yes." Refer to the Field Help instructions for more information on this field."

@Angie Marie Whiteley , Hi --when I clicked on Barbara's link, it wouldn't load for me either --Under What to Index , you'll find 2 examples --- this is example #2 that shows the crossed out stamped file number & is marked Amended for that reason --- have a great day ----Mary😎

I wonder why it wouldn't load for you. It does for me. Weird.

Ok got it! Thanks Mary & Barbara. It kept showing the 1st example.

I have another question. If it is obvious a name has been written in at a different time, but there is no amend stamp, do I still mark it as amended?
