Do I need to request permission from my living step-mother to submit temple work for my father?

Do I need to request permission from my living step-mother to submit temple work for my father? She was his last un-divorced wife. I am confused by the guidance/statements about who is considered close family members. It seems the spouse is considered the closest family member, so I am not sure if I need to request her permission.

    @shaunacartwright

    FYI

    I am just another 'lowly' User/Patron ...

    [ And, I happen to be a Member of the Church ... ]

    Just in passing ...

    That, is a very good, question ...

    This is an 'ongoing' dilemma, for many Members of the Church ...

    As far as I am aware ...

    It is NOT (clearly) stipulated, in any of the "Articles", available to Members of the Church, in fact, if there is, an EXACT "Order" of precedence, of the Closest "Living" Relatives.

    Most "Articles" indicate, that the Closest "Living" Relatives ARE:

    ▬ An Undivorced Spouse, an Adult Child, a Parent; or, a Sibling ...

    But, no stipulated, "Order" of precedence ...

    UNLESS, the "Order" of precedence, is IMPLIED, by that "Order", that those Family members appear.

    Plus. perhaps, the Leaders of our Ward/Branches (and, above), DO have DIRECTION, in their "Handbooks".

    Whereas ...

    The one thing, that MUST be remembered, is ...

    That one MUST consider and respect the wishes, of ALL Close "Living" Relatives (ie, Family members); and, especially, a "Living" Spouse.

    [ And, of course, "Prayerful" ... ]

    But ...

    That Said ...

    That, CAN be; &, IS, often, a problem/issue; when, there is, conflict; and, contention, between Family members

    In such cases ...

    In the first instance ...

    I would humbly suggest, counselling with, one's (Local) Bishop/Branch President, of one's Ward/Branch.

    [ ie. For, help/assistance; and, of course, guidance ... ]

    I know, that this certainly does not help/assist; but, I hope, that this may provide you with, some additional, insight; and, perspective; and, another avenue to pursue.

    This Knowledge article should be able to answer your question. https://www.familysearch.org/en/help/helpcenter/article/do-i-need-permission-from-the-closest-living-relative-to-do-temple-ordinances

    From what is written, any of the close living relatives can perform the ordinances as long as all the criteria are met. No general consensus is required, all close relatives are considered equal in this instance.

    Kind regards,

    Barry

    @shaunacartwright

    The FamilySearch software will know that you are his child and you will not get the "permission" button, you will be able to just request his ordinances.
