Australia, Albany—Inward Passenger Lists, 1873–1924 common errors

Hello all,

Apologies that this is not really a question -

I am reviewing this project after a short break and note that it has not progressed far. This usually means that there are inconcistencies in the way the records are being indexed in the first place and then reviewed. Each record has so many corrections at each stage that it never gets approved and the whole project stalls.

Things I have noticed that could be improved on

Given name - Title being included in given name - the instruction says

Do not include titles, terms, prefixes, or suffixes with the name.

For many entries there will be no given name because the entry says "Miss Scott" or "Private Jones"

Dates - a single date being indexed as arrival date - the instruction says

Records may list only 1 date and place for an entry. Index these as the departure date and departure place unless the document specifically says it is the arrival date and place. The departure date and place may be shown in a column labeled "where from," "where embarked or day of embarkation," or "Remarks" on the document.

This particularly applies to the pages that are from an alphabeticised book that have 4 unlabelled columns (if you have indexed much you will know what I mean). They are double pages with over 100 entries so we definitely don't want to be redoing them endlessly.

Crew members indexed - the instruction says

Index each named person on the passenger manifests and registers. Do not index the names of crew members or the ship's master.

Arrival Place - using the destination instead of the arrival place ie Albany

The arrival place should be indexed in this field, not the place of destination.

[M3KF-C5T] this is the batch number of the image I am reviewing at the moment but it will only be available to Australian and NZ indexers to view.

Let's see if we can't get this project completed with more consistent indexing and reviewing.

all the best

Julia

Australia, Albany—Inward Passenger Lists, 1873–1924[M3KY-7WK]. Is the arrival place Albany or Sydney? Just wanting to make sure I get it right. - paminpinecreek1@gmail.com
