Unmerge a tree from my tree

I have had another tree merge with mine.

I do not believe all the information that is in the other tree to be correct for my tree. How can I remove them from my tree.

Unfortunately, yours is a common problem, and is often the case with a shared tree. Although we tend to think of it as our personal tree, it is in fact, a shared tree. This means that it is open for anyone to add their names and family details, linking their names to ours when details match. This can be really beneficial and expand our horizons, but sometimes things are added that we cannot verify with the details we have discovered ourselves, but there is always the opportunity to undo relationships if they are obviously incorrect.

Can I suggest that first of all, you examine the details which have been added and view any sources or notes that my clarify why this person has been attached or merged. You can do this on the 'Person' page by going to the right hand side and looking at 'Recent Changes', and selecting 'show all' from the bottom of the menu. If you are still unhappy with the addition(s), contact the contributor and ask them for their reasons, mentioning that there is a conflict with information you already have. you can then between you, correct the information to the satisfaction of both parties.

It sounds like you wish to disconnect information that became part of your pedigree which you believe is incorrect.

New information can be brought into your pedigree in different ways. If a merge is done for a person who is your ancestor, additional family relationships may be added through that merge. You can restore previous information by following the steps mentioned in the following knowledge article. It explains how to unmerge records, or how to restore a deleted record so that you can then remove any incorrect information that might have moved into the details of your ancestor through the merge process.

You can also introduce incorrect relationships into a pedigree by linking a child to incorrect parents. If you discover one of your ancestor's is linked to the wrong parents, simply delete the incorrect parent-child relationship to resolve the issue.

Basically, review the generations that have been connected to the last ancestor that you believe is correct, and use the information in the Latest Changes on the details page of that person to decide the best way to unmerge records, or remove incorrect parents, or simply restore accurate information.
