Can I fix incorrect spelling in the census if I'm fortune to review a family I know?

I was fortunate enough to review my mom's family in the census. Her name is spelled incorrectly, which I know happened. Since I know the correct spelling, could I have fixed it, or left it indexed as it was spelled on the page? Obviously I'm wondering after the fact, I left it as it was written figuring I'd do an edit when it is available to be linked to the tree, but I might get lucky again on another family!

You handled that perfectly! For the review we need the index to reflect what was written. Part of that is because it helps train the computer to read the handwriting. And you are correct that you will be able to put the correct spelling in after the index is available. All versions of the index will be searchable and viewable. Sam 😊
