Need to edit photo ID boxes
In memories, under photos, many times those who posted photos have not done a very good job of attaching the “tag” box. Very often the box is poorly positioned, is off position, or too large; sometimes the box covers multiple people and you cannot tell which person is intended. In one example (attached) there are 8 persons tagged; all tags cover 3/4th of the photo. There is no way to tell who is who. And, if the ID box covers another ID box it is not possible to click on the box behind. See attached.
Suggestions:
1) In the upper right corner of the photo page, where it says “click image to tag people” add a “how to” button that will pop up a small window with a short video showing how to tag a person and how to position and size the box, and how to attach the person’s ID. You cannot easily explain this in words that all will understand. But, a short video will do the job. If done right, the video would not need audio – therefor anyone could understand regardless of which language they speak.
NOTE: It would also be very helpful if you could paste the person’s ID# into the box. It’s easy to copy a person’s ID#. Pasting that would be certain and it would prevent errors; such as selecting the wrong person when typing the name in. When you type, you get a list of possible names, then you must decide which one is right; usually not a problem but I have seen such errors.
2) Currently, only the person who created the ID box can edit the ID box. Make it possible for others to correct bad boxes. It would be nice if you could just contact the person who created the ID box and ask them to fix it, but that ain’t going to happen; people die, quit family search, don’t have time or won’t do it when asked. I realize there is a challenge allowing anyone to make such edits, but in the long-run those issues will less than the current issue of bad ID boxes. There ought to be a way to make the best of both issues.
Perhaps a solution would be to duplicate the original photo with the original tags. Display the duplicate on top of the original and allow the duplicate to have tags edited. And, provide a "view original photo" button to allow anyone to see uncorrected version.
