When the edit button is deactivated (grayed out) indexing errors still need correction. As things stand tonight, the help desk & the Historical Records Team could not make necessary changes. If a business rule prohibits giving me permission to edit, corrections could be made by indexing specialists, ie, the edit button could be always enabled for the Historical Records Team.

Case in point is https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:HG1M-NWT2 , image 149, Line 7 Mother's Name. This datum has been misIndexed as "Hellen Ilsley Ann Smith" when the film says "Hellen Ilsley nee Smith." No Ann.

    FYI

    Welcome to the "Community.FamilySearch" Forum.

[ With what appears to be your first post ... ]

    I am just another 'lowly' User/Patron ...

    Just in passing ...

Further to, the "Knowledge Article", in 'FamilySearch', that you reference:

How do I correct indexing errors in historical records?

Article ID: 961; and, Dated: 20 April 2020

    https://www.familysearch.org/en/help/helpcenter/article/how-do-i-fix-indexing-or-transcription-errors-in-historical-records

    https://www.familysearch.org/en/help/helpcenter/article/how-do-i-fix-indexing-or-transcription-errors-in-historical-records

    There is a "Related" Article:

Why can't I fix indexing or transcription errors?

    https://www.familysearch.org/en/help/helpcenter/article/why-cant-i-fix-indexing-or-transcription-errors

    https://www.familysearch.org/en/help/helpcenter/article/why-cant-i-fix-indexing-or-transcription-errors

    Which clearly states:

    Quote

    ------------------

Here are a few common reasons why you cannot correct a transcription error that you find.

    • As of March 2020, the capability to edit incorrect dates and places can depend on language, location, and the collection. If you are unable to edit a date or place, please be patient. The capability is coming.
    • Some of the indexed records on FamilySearch.org lack a corresponding image. We use the image to validate corrections.
    • FamilySearch does not own the index, and our agreement with the index owner does not allow for user-submitted corrections.

    ------------------

    So ...

    That Said ...

In such cases, the BEST course of action, it to make a "Note", of the "Transcription Error", in the "Title" (and, OTHER Sections) of the "Source"; which, can easily be done, once the "Source", is attached, to an individual/person.

    Unfortunately ...

We; and, even, 'FamilySearch', CANNOT "Edit"/"Correct", such ERRORS, in SOME "Records".

    Just my thoughts.

I know, that this certainly may not help/assist; but, I hope, that this may provide you with, some additional, insight; and, perspective; and, another avenue to pursue.
