Ordinance Status for my Grandfather "not available"

RE: Harold R Bennett, KWCB-7LJ
I am the grandson of Harold R Bennett (through his daughter Sally Ann Bennett Barkdull) and I saw on their Family Search page that his ordinance work is listed as "Status is not available."
I personally know that my grandfather was an active church members his entire life and was baptized, confirmed and a few years after their civil marriage they went to the Idaho Falls Temple in 1939 and were sealed together and to their children.
Can you check on the reason why his ordinance status is "not available" and correct it? And explain to me what the problem is/was?
Thank you,
David Barkdull

The following article may clarify the issue. Only a specialty department can investigate, and restore the dates if applicable.
The ordinance status "Not Available" means that the ordinance information for the person is unavailable to view.
"Not Available" can appear for many reasons. The most common are the following:
- Privacy reasons prevent display of the ordinances.
- The individual is still living or death information is not recorded properly.
- The person lived before A.D. 200, and the ordinances are probably complete.
- Additional approvals are required before you can perform ordinances for the person (such as for a famous person or Jewish Holocaust victim).
- The person does not show a spouse or parents for sealing ordinances.
Other reasons include the following:
- A couple lacks a relationship defined in Family Tree or is in a **** relationship.
- The record is about a Church member who died, and the death has not been recorded on his or her Church membership record.
- One of the parties in a sealing is still living.

Hope this helps.

Yes you removed the "Status unavailable" flags on my grandfather's Family Search entry, but you never told me what the "issue" was.
Please tell me what the problem was so it can be avoided in the future.

Is your grandfather deceased? If so, has he been reported to a ward clerk to let the church know that he is deceased. You will need an obituary, death certificate or funeral program to show the ward clerk so it is verified that he is deceased. The ward clerk will then notify the Church that he is officially deceased. If his spouse is also deceased then the ordinances will show. If his spouse is still living his ordinances will not show until she is also released and recorded with the Church. It has to do with protecting the living people. Good question we always want to understand why things happen.

My grandparents have been dead for over 35 years. The lived in Pocatello all their lives.
I understand about protecting the information of the living. However, I am a direct line descendent and there should not have been this "Status is not available" warning. My paternal grandparents have been dead for about 30 years and there was no such hold on their information.
Perhaps there is no answer as to why their information was blocked. Perhaps it was a clerical error or data entry issue on someone's part. It's just often useful to know the reason for things happening so future problems can be avoided.
