If a name or names are crossed out - the computer indexes them - should I include them?

@airland, found the crossed-out indicator under the Transcription Error menu.

    • If a name is crossed out and not replaced:

Click on the Transcription Error flag at the bottom right to bring up the Report Transcript Error window.

Check the option: ___ Crossed Out each time part of the crossed out field pops up for comparison.

    • If the name is crossed out and replaced with another name, the replaced name should be compared.

I thought this was covered in the FAQ yesterday (not to include), but it wasn't there today.

I did come across a page that had several lines crossed out and also had writing that indicated to see another page.

Perhaps @CJTobler can provide an answer.

Noticed in family groups, a large dash for last name for those under the head of household.

most times as I index I see the computer just generates the first name only. A few times now the last name pops up even though there is a dash. How do I address this?

    1. Transcription error - not a name, just index first name
    2. index it

    From FAQ: https://www.familysearch.org/en/info/1950-us-census-project-frequently-asked-questions

What should I do with “--” in the Surname field?

    • In Name Review, leave it as is and mark as a Match. Think of it as shorthand for the actual surname.
    • In Family Review, replace it with the surname itself.

We're not doing family review yet, just name review; so that "'ditto" line should be marked as a Match.

You say we are not doing family review, but there are families listed in the census records under name review
