How to Participate in the 1950 Census Community Project / FAQ / Timeline
Volunteers will review and improve the computer-generated index, making sure it’s accurate and complete. There are three ways to review the index:
· Name Review—Review a single name at a time. This will be available first.
· Family Review—Review all fields for a family or household. Available the first week of April.
· Header Review—Review the information at the top of each census page. Available the first week of April.
We are most excited about the ability we will have to drill down into the specific county where your family is from. You can search by location and surname, or just location.
States will be launched one at a time over the coming weeks until all states are available for review. When the review for each state is complete, it will be able to be published to be searchable on FamilySearch.org.

I am curious as to why I am only able to Review Names. When I read about the other two activities we are supposed to be able to do I get:
Is this an issue being worked on? I am on my PC and have a large screen. My other question is what to do with names that have been crossed out? Is it correct to go to transcription error, check the crossed-out mark, and as in reviewing still leave the name in place?

I got the same; when I expanded my window it changed and said Review Families and Review Document Header aren't available yet anyway. Only Review Names is active, and only for two states (Oregon and Nevada, although I can only get Oregon to work at this point)
It's a work in progress.

Thank you, Cousin Vinny. I, too, have had both states disappear and then have only Oregon reappear. I'm patient.

For items crossed out, go to "transcription error' (bottom re corner) & select 'crossed out'

@charlesaustingroberg1 Can you give me a little more info? What platform are you both using? Did you both login? Can you describe what you see versus what she sees or provide a screenshot?

Other than a time issue, why are we (the indexers) not doing in the indexing ourself? When the 1940 US Census came out, that project was indexed in a very short time, we all loved to get involved with this popular project. So what's next, computers are going to do all the indexing and we are going to review what the computer misses? Are we getting credit for our efforts in the indexing/reviewing totals? Just my thoughts.

very odd - before today I was able to enter items - today when I log in, get message about improvements coming and no ability to do any item. So is 1950 been put into a hold mode?

Since we're waiting for review of the 1950 census to restart, it would be helpful to review these hard-to-find instructions:
Also, there are three "Leave Blank" columns, A, B, and C, that were tabulated by the computer, but are not included in the instructions. Should we review and correct these entries as well?

Is anyone else having trouble with the "This is the next page" screen popping up at inappropriate times and changing the number of households left-- and thus, closing out the page before all the household entries are completed? I have found a couple different scenarios that cause a change in households left, including skipping lines labeled not at home/vacant.

I was excited to start the Families Review and managed to get 2 couples done but then I got to a family of husband, wife, and several children. The system seemed to get stuck and I had to work and work to get it to hone in on the wife. When I finally completed all the information on her, I was totally unable to get to the first son. The system was skipping several other children in that family and going to the next head of household. Maybe it has some kinks that need to be worked out before open to us to review.

@David Chapman_8 , you may have already received an answer. "There are three "Leave Blank" columns, A, B, and C, that were tabulated by the computer, but are not included in the instructions. Should we review and correct these entries as well?" If there is information in those fields, please go ahead and record what you see.
@DLW2 , Thank you for your question about a page popping up and the change in households left. When you see this happening, please click on Feedback on that page and put a thorough explanation in the box. Engineers value your feedback to make the system work correctly.
@Toni Loving, this needs to be reported in Feedback on that page. Please explain thoroughly. This article may be what you are explaining. If not, your issue needs to be reported anyway the next time it happens to you.
Thank you all for your hard work. We apologize it has taken so long to answer your questions.

I left a page and tried to come back but was unable. It isn't like indexing where you can do a part and come back to finish. I was working on a family I was related to but now can't find it. It is not done yet.

@veramaewalker1 I am sorry that you lost the page with your family information. The page will be picked up by another Indexer and completed.
