What does +sft mean when listed after a passenger's name?

I'm indexing Australian Passenger Lists and have seen this several times. We are supposed to put an entry for each person named. When they say +ch we know the child's surname is their surname but who is an sft???? They list whether they are male or female but is their surname the same????

Dot you have a shared batch code so we can look at this batch?

It might say +inft. For an accurate answer, please share the batch.

Oops! I submitted the batch. Hope they catch it on review. Next time I'll know how to share the batch though. Thanks, Mary

    Hi Mary Cederquist,

I am not sure we are supposed to add an entry for children when they are only referred to as and child. The general indexing guidelines state:

    • Do not assume the surname of an individual based on the surname of someone else, such as a parent or a spouse, unless directed otherwise in the project instructions.

Some of the list show the children's first name and a ditto mark under the surname, these should definitely have an entry of their own.

If I am wrong I hope someone higher up the chain corrects me. I would hate to mislead you.

    Enjoy your indexing.
