Missing and switched ordinances for two different men named Howell Powell
I am a distant cousin by marriage to Howell Powell JMD, L66R-PVN. He was born about 1674 in Talbot County, Maryland Colony, and his three weddings were entered in the Quaker and Episcopal records there.
Apparently during the “New FamilySearch” era, his data and ordinances in the FamilySearch Tree were merged with my direct ancestor Howell Powell JNJ (LCCR-6VT). I restored what I could and changed the suffixes for both men from Jr to JMD and JNJ respectively, to distinguish their locations in Maryland and New Jersey. I would like the appropriate ordinances to be restored to each family.

His parents were Howell Powell Sr (L66R-GGX) and Elizabeth Anne Gorsuch (L6PP-GGR).
He married 1) Joanna Pryer (K67L-1V4), 6 October 1698; 2) Esther Bartlett (2HB5-HSB), 2 April 1704; and 3) Sarah Edmondson (LZXR-1ND), 2 October 1718 (Quaker dates).
I have checked the IGI online and the DOS database in Special Collections at the Family History Library, and found the following sealings:
Howell Powell of Maryland was sealed with his second wife Esther Bartlett in the Los Angeles Temple, 27 July 1784. He was sealed to his parents there on the same date. Reference: Film 1395709, Batch 8403003, Sheet 70. Couple IDs may have been MTTL-7BS for Howell and MTTL-7BZ for Esther.
Howell Powell of Maryland was sealed with his third wife Sarah Edmondson in the Salt Lake Temple, 25 January 1979. This may have been from extractions of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Talbot County, Maryland. The database references Film 14520 from that parish, and Printout 1205006.
In the IGI Addendum is another set of ordinances for Howell Powell of Maryland in the Washington DC Temple: Baptism 6 February 1996, Endowment 27 November 1998, and Sealing to Parents 4 May 1999. IDs may have been MVTC-4PW for Howell Jr, MVTC-4PB for his father Howell Sr, and MVTC-45X for his mother Elizabeth Gorsuch. In the FamilySearch Tree, the pages for his brothers William Powell (MVTC-42Z) and Daniel Powell (LHZ7-DPH) show their sealings to parents likewise, 4 May 1999 in the Washington DC Temple.
Howell Powell Jr of New Jersey, Congregational Minister, 1676–1716
Source: Owen, J.D. Dictionary of Welsh Biography, 1959 (https://biography.wales/article/s-POWE-HOW-1716 : 17 March 2022); citing Minutes of Cong. Fund Board, 1696–1704; Transactions of the Congregational Historical Society, May 1911, 81–82; and Hanes Eglwysi Annibynnol Cymru, iv, 346.
The names of his parents have not been identified. In the FamilySearch Tree, his temple ordinances include a sealing to parents on 26 August 1983 in the Provo Temple, but his parents’ names are missing there. I believe that sealing resulted from a submission found on Film 1395542, Batch F837161, Sheet 9. It simply names his parents as Powell and Mrs. Powell, born about 1644 and 1648 respectively, of Fairfield, Cumberland, New Jersey. That sealing may match the IGI record at https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/2:1:9H57-DM9, with 9H57-81F for Howell Jr, 9H57-DM9 for his father Powell, and 9H57-DMN for his mother Mrs. Powell.
I have checked these IDs from the IGI and found 9H57-81F merged into my New Jersey ancestor but his parents’ IDs merged into the Maryland couple, Howell Powell Sr (L66R-GGX) and Elizabeth Anne Gorsuch (L6PP-GGR).
Images from patron submission records on microfilm are attached. Thank you for your efforts to sort out this mixup. I have reserved the ordinances that are missing in hopes they can be restored without further duplication.
