Hi there, I've been able to find the record on familysearch but I'm just not able to find the image. Can someone suggest how I should go about searching for the image please? I tried using different permutation combinations of year of marriage, image group number, place of event, etc. but the images/batch just won't show up.

If you click on the 'check availability' on that image (at the link referenced: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:HGGN-FSW2) - the images are unattached to that index. You will have to browse through them looking for marriage records. It looks like around image 170 the images switch to marriage records. The images appear to be in random mixed calendar order - if you have the date (beyond 1942) that will help.

You can also try Search> Images and perhaps browse that DGS at:

    https://www.familysearch.org/records/images/image-details?imageGroupNumbers=5138047&rmsId=TH-1951-24934-9456-39&imageIndex=0

@Cyril77, if you check the catalog for the film or image group number, you'll see that all of these India records have the camera-with-key icon, and clicking on one of them gives the "FHC or affiliate library" message. (Film 527428 is on the second page of "Film/Digital Notes" at https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/159329.)

If you don't have a Family History Center or affiliate library available, you can ask the Family History Library's Lookup Service for the image.

@genthusiast, I think you must've been looking at the wrong line somewhere, because Cyril's question wouldn't exist if these records weren't indexed. The whole point is that he found the index but can't access the image to go with it.

Yes - :) just reporting what I get when clicking 'check image availability'. Perhaps the index is not linked properly (at least on mobile).

In other words the index is not showing ... Nor does that link provided show a specific date (a poor index) ...

"India Marriages, 1792-1948 ." Database. FamilySearch. http://FamilySearch.org : 5 February 2020. Index based upon data collected by the Genealogical Society of Utah, Salt Lake City.

    Just found marriage date:

    Marriage 11 February 1942

    Madras, India

Did you try Search> Images (for that DGS):

    https://www.familysearch.org/records/images/image-details?imageGroupNumbers=5138047&rmsId=TH-1951-24934-9456-39&imageIndex=0

if those images do not appear you can try submitting a lookup request:

    https://www.familysearch.org/en/family-history-library/family-history-library-records-look-up-service

but because the index is not linked to the images lookup may be difficult/declined.

@Cyril77, as you can see, the film has index entries associated with it (indicated by the magnifying glass), and the images are restricted access (indicated by the camera with key). This means that no amount of varying the search parameters from your home computer will turn up anything more than the index entry (https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:HGGN-FSW2), and no variations on the same exact question will result in any different answers: you cannot access the image from home. You have to either go to an FHC or affiliate library, or you have to try the remote lookup service of the library in Utah.

    @Cyril77

The image collection at FamilySearch notes: "This image courtesy of Find My Past, Ltd"

I am not sure why - when I visit findmypast.com I cannot locate these images - but the collection at FamilySearch hasn't changed since Feb 2020.

I can confirm the image is: Image 342 of 462

I assume it would be available to you at FHC/AL (just call them before you go to verify images availability and hours)

    OR

provide that image number at the FamilySearch lookup service (see above).

As far as possible differences in the transcript:

    George Corrie | rank=signaller | place of residence = Royapettah | father's name = James Charles Corrie

Antonette Forbes| | residence = Mount Rd, Madras | father's name = George James Forbes

Antonette must have had a relation as witness = W. M. Forbes
