How do I change a vital record?

FYI
Welcome to the "Community.FamilySearch" Forum.
[ With what appears to be your first post ... ]
I am just another 'lowly' User/Patron ...
Just in passing ...
I am some what confused ...
You are referencing, the incorrect entry, by another User/Patron, of your Grandmother's "Name".
You SHOULD, be EASILY, able to correct, the entry, for your Grandmother's "Name".
Yet, you state: "... This error is preventing me from adding children to my grandmother ...".
Providing, that you are referring to the "Family Tree" Part, of 'FamilySearch' ...
I DO NOT understand, WHY, an incorrect "Name", would prevent you, from "Adding", Children, to an individual/person.
Can you please explain WHY:
(1) You CANNOT "Change" the "Name", of your Grandmother, to what you consider to be her correct "Name";
AND, regardless, of the former ...
(2) You are prevented, from "Adding", Children, to your Grandmother.
'Thank You', in advance.

Brett,
This was my first question but I have been a member for many years. I added the correct spelling of my grandmother's name but the incorrect spelling continues to show up associated with my grandfather. Two people entered the incorrect spelling with only a census showing first name from, I think without going back and checking, the 1930 Census showing first name of my grandmother under my grandfather in census. The names of the children up under the incorrect spelling and, when I tried to do a copy and paste, got a notice saying I couldn't do that. I have not yet tried to enter all the children's name by hand but will. Incidentally, when I say incorrect spelling, I am talking about a "W" vice an "M" as first letter of maiden name.
Appreciate your response and would like to delete the maiden name that is incorrect so future generations trying to do a search don't get as confused as I was.

'Thank You' for that explanation.
[ And, I happen to be a Member of the Church, of many Years ... ]
I understand.
I tend to include, ALL the "Variant" Spellings, of an individual's/person's, "Name"; as, "Alternate Names", in the "Other Information" Section, with the "Details" of the related "Sources", on which the "Name" appears, in "Chronological" Order.
ie.
"Vitals" Section = ORIGINAL "Birth"/"Christening" name.
"Other Information Section = ALL "Variants", of BOTH, "Birth"; and, (for Females) "Married", name(s).
Plus ...
I get, the "Changing" of the "Name", by OTHER Users/Patrons; and, having to address/fix that often.
But ...
That Said ...
I STILL do not understand WHY there is a problem/issue; when, say "... The names of the children up under the incorrect spelling and, when I tried to do a copy and paste, got a notice saying I couldn't do that ..."
Question: Were you doing this through the "SourceLinker"; while, "Adding" a "Source"?
And ...
As an aside ...
I know, that there is, a "Known" MAJOR Problem/Issue, with the "1900, Census of the United States of America", that is currently subject to investigation, to try and rectify.
Just perhaps, there are ALSO problems/issues, with the LATER Census' of the United States of America; as, well.
And, such is causing a problem/issue for you.
Just my thoughts.

Brett,
Thanks. My cousin has been a member and is an Elder. If all else fails I may ask him for help but I would rather not. There should be an easy answer. I understand "variants" and list them when typing up my history at home.
When I said I couldn't copy the list the names of the children what I meant was the children are listed under the name of my grandfather and the incorrect maiden name and I tried to do a copy and paste to put under my grandmother's name (which I entered) with the correct last spelling of the maiden name to save some typing but the system would not let me. FYI, the person I am talking about is Bertha Waller LTRG-C1Z listed under John Fellner and I entered Bertha Malicks as my grandmother's name.
Thanks,
Jim

@thecubman, I think you have misunderstood how the Family Tree on FamilySearch works.
Two important points: (1) Family Tree is open-edit, meaning that nearly anything can be changed by anyone (after logging in), and (2) Family Tree is communal: the goal is one and only one profile per deceased person.
It kind of sounds like there are two profiles for your grandmother: one with the correct name, but no children attached, and one with the incorrect name, but all of the children correct. If this is the case, then you can fix it by merging the two profiles. Keep the correct name from the one profile and transfer all of the children and sources from the other profile.
If the profile with the correct name but none of the correct relationships was created by you, and nobody else has edited it, then another way you can fix things is to delete that profile and just edit the name on the other one. In future, if you find a profile that's clearly for the correct person but gets a detail like this wrong, you should not create a new profile for the correct information. Edit the incorrect conclusion instead.

I cannot tell if @thecubman is talking about profiles on Family Tree or FamilySearch historical records, but I am leaning toward historical records.
@thecubman it would help a lot if you would share the record or profile in question.
