Merging Family Search IDs of Living People

In the past, I created FS IDs for each of my children and uploaded many photos to each of their Memory tabs under their FS IDs. Since my children are living, the only way they currently can view the FS ID I created for them is by logging into my account on FS. When I am no longer living, how will they be able to access their FS ID and all the photos I've uploaded to it? Can they merge the FS ID I created for them with the FS ID they created for themselves even though they are living?

We do not currently have a way for users to share the living and confidential people that they add to Family Tree with other users. Nor can you designate an heir who can take it over after death. Each user will need to enter separate records for the same living or confidential persons in order to see these people in their trees. Below is the article with more information. The article on Family Groups may give you some more ideas. Thanks for your post.

My son has different numbers for himself and for me.

Orville Keith Carlson has #Kw8n-rt7 for himself and for me, Margaret Josephine Evans he has LJQL-PFM.

Margaret Josephine Evans (me his mom) has #LX45-XGH for him and #KW8R-5GT for me. We are unable to merge our files. Can you help with this? Thank you.

When I access the Family Tree App on my phone my husband's name has a different ID number than the number that shows up on his phone's Family Tree App.

That is normal. Because living persons are in your Private Living Space in Family Tree - the ID showing when you login will be different than the ID showing when they login (their Private Space for living persons is separate from your Private Space for living persons). This is as designed. Essentially this means there are two different people/IDs in the Tree (that will need to be merged when a living person passes on) - that represent one actual living person. Some people consider having two different IDs for living persons a problem - but merging them is not too big of an issue either (once deceased - merging has improved over past iterations in my opinion).

But, he can't see our childrens' families which are connected to his other ID in Family Search. I can see them in the app. And my ID number in the app is the same as it is on Family Search and connected to him (but not to the ID number in his app). I'm confused!

The Living Person IDs you created in your account will be visibile only by you. The Living Person IDs your husband creates in his account will only be visible by him. If you have multiple accounts - the Private Living Space will be different for each and so you will see different Private Living Space Person IDs in each account. Perhaps a few FamilySearch Help Center documents will help you understand FamilySearch Family Tree Person IDs and Private Living Spaces better:

If a relative has a living person on the tree that matches one you have, they have the opportunity to merge.

Living people, by definition, can only be seen by the person who created it. I suspect there are at least 4 of me on the tree, but I can't see the others.

Merging of all instances of a living person will only be possible when all instances of that person are marked deceased.

But the good news it that all memories added to any of the Living PIDs will be merged and preserved.

Family Groups will allow sharing among living relatives.
