Sealing of Spouse

This idea is to make searching much more productive as one looks for a person's spouse. At the present time the Sealing of Spouse shows "Cannot Request- Not available". I interpret that comment in orange to mean that one cannot request a temple card for the sealing as there is not the information available to complete the marriage information. I would like to recommend that a field be made available to provide additional information as to why the sealing ordinance is not to be completed--- person was never married. That would eliminate the seal to spouse field and the research is over. Unfortunately, at present, one can still enter the spouse information in the detail field....so an entry can still be made when it would be inaccurate for a single individual. I have spent unnecessary research time looking for marriage certificates for individuals who died and never married.

    Welcome to the "Community.FamilySearch" Forum.

    I am just another 'lowly' User/Patron ...

[ And, I happen to be a Member of the Church ... ]

    Just in passing ...

    I am sorry ...

    I take a different 'tack' ...

I would humbly suggest, that the "Ordinance" 'Tab', of an individual/person, should NOT be used; as, the basis, to DECIDE, if the "Temple Work", for "Sealing to Spouse", for that individual/person, needs to be done.

ie. To do ANY "Research", for such ...

The "Person/Details" page/screen, SHOULD be used; as, the basis, to 'see', in an individual/person; even, has a Spouse (ie. Couple Relationship), in the FIRST place.

    And, furthermore ...

There is ALSO an "Indicator", if "Set", that indicates, whether or not, an individual/person, even had a "Couple Relationship".

ie. In the "Other Information" Section, under "Facts", that being "No Couple Relationship".

Of course, that "Indicator" is NOT always "Set".

That is the SECOND place to 'look'.

    Plus ...

IF, that that "Indicator" IS "Set"; THEN, if a User/Patron tries to add a Spouse, the "System" will NOT allow such; UNTIL, that "Indicator" is "Cleared" (ie."Deleted"/"Removed").

    And, of course ...

IF, that that "Indicator" has NOT been "Set"; THEN, a User/Patron, can quite EASILY, add a Spouse.

    I do not understand ...

WHY you would "... spent unnecessary research time looking for marriage certificates for individuals who died and never married ...".

The "Person/Details" page/screen, is the FIRST place to 'look', to decide, to undertake, ANY "Research".

The "Ordinance" 'Tab', of an individual/person, should NOT be used; as, the basis, for undertaking ANY "Research".

IF, I 'see', on the "Ordinance" 'Tab', of an individual/person, that particular "Temple" Work, is NOT available (eg. "SP"); THEN, the FIRST place, that I would 'look', would be the "Person/Details" page/screen, of that individual/person.

    As such ...

I do not think, that what you suggest, is necessary.

    Again, I am sorry ...

    Just my thoughts.

    Brett
