Registration place vs registration center

My question is about batch (M3NN-NPH):

The instructions say not to put the registration center's location for the registration place. What is the difference between the two, and is there information on the document that would count as the registration place? It says to "index only the town or village, chiefdom, and district, in that order," but where would that particular information be found on the document? I found a similar question on this board but I'm not sure I fully understood the answer.

This is where direct access to a Project MODERATOR would come in handy.

Good question! The Field Instructions directly contradict themselves. Also, I find it interesting there is no Field for the birthplace on a Birth Registration Form.

Project: Sierra Leone—Birth and Death Registrations, 1858–2016 [Part D]

@maxashaelallen1 So, reading the project instructions it states:

    • Do not index the registration center or any numbers in the place of registration boxes. Index only the town or village, chiefdom, and district, in that order.

And based on the field directions it says

Do not index the registration center.

Index only the town or village, chiefdom, and district, in that order.

This should be indexed as Western Area, Freetown

The recorder was just sloppy with it.

The registration center would be the first one listed and then comes the info you would need to index.

It seems the directions do not want you to index the name of the center. Just the location.

IF we follow standard data entry indexing procedures and enter the information as it was entered on the form, this still creates a problem for indexing/reviewing.

Index only the town or village, chiefdom, and district, in that order.

Strictly speaking (the fields, if separate would be):

    Town/Village: Area

    Chiefdom: Western

    District: Freetown

So, the indexed field would be:

    Registration Place: Area, Western, Freetown

Seems pretty ridiculous, and will just add to the placename errors that need fixing.

Freetown is the capital of Sierra Leone, so logical order would be: Freetown, Western Area. The Standardized Place name in FamilySearch is Freetown, Western Area, Sierra Leone.

Entries like this are hopefully a rarity, but seems to me there should be some corrections to geographical data that should be allowed when there is only one placename field.
