Add field to death records
In many of the hand written Brazilian death records the recorder will indicate that the deceased was married or was a widdow/widdower but then doesn't list the name of the spouse to whom they were married. It would be helpful in such cases for patrons searching ancestors to have an indication in the record that the person was or had been married even though the name of the spouse wasn't listed. A field could be added just before the name of the spouse indicating married/single. If single was chosen, the name of spouse could automatically be filled in as blank. If married was checked and no spouse was included in the record, the name of the spouse could e filled in as blank.

In many of the Brazilian marriage records there is an indication of marital status in the written records, but more often than not the recorder did not include the name of the spouse. Sometimes they will include a reference to where the marriage was recorded, but still no name. For those searching for ancestors, it would be helpful to know that the person they have found is married or not so they can continue their search if they were married.

Keep in mind that indexes are just finding aids: the researcher can look at the record itself to see the information about marital status. It does not need to be in the index.

To follow on the comment by @Julia Szent-Györgyi, this annotation is not very common globally, and globally there is much variation in the annotations on records. A wise researcher always reviews the page image. So, indexing is best kept simple. No upvote from me.
But thank you, @MarkZaugg, for raising the suggestion for community review.
