Get involved review

Do the names we review in the Get Involved section add to our indexing- review totals? I would think they would, but its placed separate from the regular indexing in the overview so I would just like to make sure.

I will be sure to give this new type of review a try soon.

    Hi Colin.

My work added in this evening, so I'm sure that all will be well with yours. It's the same programme, just a different way of accessing it.

I have tried two batches. Both had the incorrect place - as you are given the opportunity to select the place you would like to review. Hopefully that does not mean the place index will not be corrected. As far as verifying the names - those are fairly straightforward - you can edit the index or verify it.

You will see the totals under "My Opportunities". The totals should be kept separate - as the activities do not equate.

It looks like these are tracked separately under the heading "Review Names."

Once you complete certain number of names it displays how many numbers you have corrected and how many countries you helped.

They said the numbers are not combined at this point, but, might be someday. That would be totally unfair to combine the numbers from Review Names with the Indexing Totals. In 1 minute, I can review 20 "name fields" in this new opportunity. It would take me at least 10 minutes to review 20 entries in FamilySearch, and that would be from a pristine image, with a given and surname only, maybe a date, and the remaining fields blank. The old parish records would take much longer.

It simply would not be fair to consider this new opportunity on an equal basis with indexing!

I don't think the places are set up yet, but, will be for the census. This seems to be a test run. And do not use the rules of Indexing for this new opportunity! For instance, if the name is spelled Thos you expand that to Thomas.

Thanks so much you guys for your help! @Melissa S Himes i like the idea that these should be separate activities and that the totals should be kept separate, i think that would be for the best.

This is kinda like regular reviewing, but now everyones reviewing when on FS you have to index at least 1k before being able to review. Not that thats a huge amount, but its something. I dont know if this is going to be a good thing or a bad thing for the new reviewing, but as long as people are involved and the work is getting done right?

I've been doing the Review Names in Get Involved for a few days but I have been doing the same record repeatedly. It does not provide a new record to compare and I feel like I am wasting my time. Is there anyway to proceed past the repeated record and get a new, different record?

If you are getting the same record over and over you can get new records by changing the state the record is taken from. This is the beginning of this program so the number of records ready to be reviewed is no doubt in the beginning stages as well.

The idea of "Review Names" is not to "compare" entries - it is to decipher handwriting and to provide a 2nd set of eyes for possible typos made by the indexer, such as typing ie instead of ei in the name Heidi. And, after each Name you must hit Submit in order to go to the next name.
