Sierra leone Batch [M36D-VMB] I am sure that most of the o's in the names are actually a's. Can someone help me? I will enter them as o's because of the indexing instructions.
I think it looks like a pretty well indexed batch. Which entries are you particularly worried about?
I am sure the o's in the last names - Kamara. They look like Komora and some look like Kamora. I just ran into another batch that had a fathers last name - 3 times a different letter. The first looked like a (u). The next looked like an (o). The last looked like an (a). Do I enter them how they look or LOOK STUPID? Of course we are following instructions and the old handwriter is looking stupid. Batch [M36D-GXK]
That batch [M36D-GXK] is not as clear as the first one.
Looking at the most common surnames in Sierra Leone and their incidence: Kamara (669,645 of 1:11) and Komora (352,045 or 1:20) are at the top of the list. Sesay is in second place with 384,739 or 1:18 and Mansaray is 15th with 177,482 incidences or 1:40. Bokarie is another prominent surname, which appears on your record numerous times. So, this is going to be tough to judge. You could use the question mark wildcard for the letters that are undecipherable. K?m?ra
Here's a link to a list of most common surnames in Sierra Leone, maybe it will help you.
Looking at a list of most common names of the Limba people of Sierra Leone (which these all seem to be) from their group on Facebook:
Conteh, Konteh, Mansaray, Bangura, Sesay, Koroma, Kamara, Dumbaya, Samura, Kargbo are all mentioned.
Hope that helps a little!
I looked up common(and not so common) S L Surnames 3 times. 3 different lists. I never saw any Kamora's. But we are told to write what we see. Safe rules to follow. I do most of the time. Sometimes I cannot help myself but people might change common names a little.
