Finding records that are listed in an index

Good evening,

I would like to find the individual records listed in the typed index sheets found in this film: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-CS6C-VN3J?mode=g&cat=63856

  1. From this page: https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/638034?availability=Family%20History%20Library it tells me the records are from Schoppendorf, 1587-1847.
  2. Then when I go to the first selection, S.81-117, DGS 7995023, and go to page 3 of the film, it tells me these are from: Kirchenbuch register Kirchenkreis Weimar-Land.
  3. I am guessing that Schoppendorf is the specific location, in Weimar-Land. Does that seem right from what is listed on the page?
  4. I very much want to see the individual records found in this index. Does Family Search have them, or do I go to Germany to look for records?
  5. For example, on page 348, baptisms for Pauli family, lists page number, but I don't know where these originals are located, and how to find them.

Can you help?

Thanks so much!

Vicky

I am not connected with FamilySearch.

I am somewhat confused by your information.

The first link you give https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-CS6C-VN3J?mode=g&cat=63856 is for film # 007995025 opening at 1858097

The second link you give for the catalog entry  https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/638034 is for two different films

    1858094 Item 2/7995023 and 1858095 Item 1 7989662

Are you interested in the film in the first link, or the films in the second link?

They are however related, The catalogue for the first film is https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/637708 and # 007995025 or 1858097 is from Volume 3 of a 3 volume manuscript, described as "Mikrofilme aufgenommen von Manuskripten in der Zentralstelle für Genealogie, Leipzig: 1934-1936. 3 Bde".

The description for Volume 3 is "Bd. 3. Isseroda, Kapellendorf, Nohra, Obergrunstedt, Goldbach, Ottmannshausen, Stedten, Rödigsdorf, Schwabsdorf, Umpferstedt, Wiegendorf, Gaberndorf, Daasdorf am Berge, Tröbsdorf I. Teil, Hottelstedt, Kleinkromsdorf, Grosskromsdorf mit Schöndorf, Süssenborn, Denstedt.

Extracts of parish registers (births, marriages, deaths) from the Protestant communities in the Weimar-Land, Sachsen-Weimar-Eisenach (now Thüringen), Germany. Text in German".

You could try searching further on FamilySearch, but I am confused about what you are actually looking for.

As the records are Protestant perhaps they may be available on the pay website https://www.archion.de/en/. If not, and if you cannot locate any records on FamilySearch, you would need to try to locate the original records at either a church or church archive in Germany. Of course, they may not have survived e.g. many were lost in the Second World War.

    Hi Maureen,

Thank you so much for your detailed reply. I am not sure what happened, and I apologize for sending confusing information.

I am looking for Protestant church records. I will check my search and see where I went wrong with sharing it. The correct film number is 7995023-that is listed on each of my printouts.

I have used Archion before, but it has been some time, and I have to start from scratch on figuring that out.

I am definitely looking for the original church records.

    Thanks again,

    Vicky

This is really weird: the catalog indicates that film 1858094 (digital image group 7995023) has 11 items, but they're all numbered item 1 or 2: https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/results?count=20&query=%2Bfilm_number%3A1858094

Looking at the images, the film/group does appear to consist of just two parts. Schoppendorf is in the second part, starting on image 485: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-CS6Z-LQHL-4?i=484&cat=638034

That's of course a typed index to the church registers. Based on what's in the Catalog, FamilySearch does not have the registers that the index was based on -- and as far as I can tell, neither does Archion (https://www.archion.de/de/suche/). I tried all of the places that Meyer's Gazetteer lists as having a Protestant church within 4 miles of Schoppendorf (https://www.meyersgaz.org/place/20756007).

I think you're going to have to contact the church itself to ask where or if these registers currently exist.

Thank you Julia. I was exploring the records again, and see that records for Mellingen begin at page 341, and the Pauli family is listed after that, page 348,0355, 356, 361.

I am struggling with using Archion. Do you think Mellingen records are in the Archion records? I do not know which church it is. There are many to explore!

    Thanks so much,

    Vicky
