Can anyone add to a tree?

Can anyone add to a tree that I start, or only people I invite?

I want to start a tree for the worldwide clan of people with the surname GREEFF, and I want to link and join the research of researchers all over the world. Would I have to invite other to add to the tree, and must I give them access to the tree?

On the other hand, can any person in the world just add data to our family tree, and here I am particularly concerned with enthusiastic people who care about volume and not quality, nor accuracy.

The short answer is that anyone can add/delete/amend anything you put on except for living people. That is the nature of the Family Tree on FamilySearch.

There are many articles discussing this. One can be found at

    https://www.familysearch.org/en/help/helpcenter/article/what-is-the-purpose-of-familysearch-and-family-tree?articleVariant=public

Note too that, if you search for Greeff, you will find many people with that name already in Family Tree. We are encouraged to try to avoid creating duplicates.

If you are focusing solely on Greeff, you might want to take a look at the Guild of One Name Studies. See

    https://one-name.org/

You may find that creating your tree on a different website that gives you more control might suit your purposes better.

Feel free to ask further questions.
