How do we get finished indexes fixed when there are whole lines omitted?
I was searching this 1790 census page: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:33S7-9YYY-GLN?i=7&cc=1803959&personaUrl=%2Fark%3A%2F61903%2F1%3A1%3AXHKV-KNQ and noticed names given surname Negroe were completely missing from the index shown below. They are easy to spot because their household number is shown in the "All Other Persons" column. I have been trying to get someone at the other end of the contact us email address to understand and correct the problem but they are either a bot or not reading my email. I got a canned response not relevant to my message and tried again but haven't received a response in 2 days.

Your question is common - what to do with Census documents that have a name left out?
You have basically already done that which can be done - report it here.
Since the specific document to which you refer (but I note that the link above didn't work here in Community - you might need to copy/paste into your browser):
Lists Daniel Tucker
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XHKV-KFL
then skips to Jabez Thompson
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XHKV-KNX
There is nothing you can do about adding index entries for persons 'missed' since the collection is already published.
If persons missing from the index are members of your family and you wish to attach the document to that person in the Tree - you have several options.
- Go to that person's Sources tab and add the URL for the document and transcribe what was left out of the document in the Notes.
- Do the same thing essentially in the Source Box (click on your profile in the upper right corner area - it is an option in that menu)
- Use a third-party browser plugin which can create a citation and attach that citation to the Source in Tree (example: https://recordseek.com/)
There is nothing that can be done about no response from Support other than to contact them again (perhaps by phone would be best if available from your location). Community Moderators can manipulate your posts in any manner they wish - which appears to be why your separate post was put below your duplicate. Any subsequent posts to a thread show under Answers.

I was searching the images of the 1790 census the other day and noticed the entries with surname listed as "Negroe" for people listed in the "Other Persons' column were ommited from the index shown below. I double checked by doing a census search for the name, Frank Negroe and Peter Negroe but came up empty. A search for just Negroe showed 4 results though. It looks like at least one volunteer wasn't ignoring them. I sent an email to the address listed for North America found on the contact us page and got a typical bot response with a link to the census information page. They obviously didn't even read my email. So I replied, "You don't understand..." and explained again, including the link to a sample page but still no response two days later. What do I do to get this fixed?
See example here. On the right hand side find Daniel Tucker. The next name is Frank Negroe but the index below skips him and has Jabez Thompson next. A bit further down is Titus Burns 2nd followed by Peter Negroe but the index below skips him and has Edward Hawkins next. There is another example on the left hand page too. They are easy to spot because their family number is listed in the 4th column, "All Other Persons".

Something doesn't work right here. The answer posted above is not an answer, it is my first attempt to ask this question. Notice the time is earlier than the question post. it through an error when I tried to post then disappeared so I tried again. I see no where to delete the extra either, even though it was written by me. Frustrating. There is still no answer from support through email either.

They aren't my family as far as I know. It's just that all free African Americans were skipped and it needs to be corrected. There are two on the left page also, Laben Negroe and Cambridge Negroe. The following page has Mark Negroe. The previous page has a few more that were skipped, etc, etc.

I believe FamilySearch is working toward a solution to make editing/correcting indexes of previously published collections 'easier'. Hopefully when that is available such corrections will occur quickly.
For interest of those researching African American heritage: https://www.familysearch.org/en/wiki/African_American_Census
For 1790 US Census perhaps this link may help:
Note: the links for reports/documents of free persons of color have changed - they can be found at (use Ctrl + F to search 1790 for example):

Thanks, genthusiast. The first link is misleading. It says, "The names of all free blacks were included in the 1850 and 1860 census. " but as we've seen in the 1790 census, at least some locations listed "free black" households during the first US census. The 2nd link you shared as a complete list of all those households. They enclosed Negroe in parenthesis. Thanks again.

I finally heard back last night. Support said in part, "...We, in Support, cannot promise that the census will be reindexed. We will bring it to the attention of those who can make that decision.
More and more records allow for edits to indexed records. This article provides an explanation. When or if this will be included, we do not know.
