Just in passing ...

As, 'FamilySearch' states ... "Merging is a complex process"

You are not alone ...

"Merging"/"Combining", is; and, can be, quite daunting ...

Just quickly ...

While, in the process of "Merging"/"Combining" ...

The individual/person on the 'RIGHT-hand-Side', WILL be REATINED; as, the "Surviving" individual/person.

Whereas ...

The individual/person on the 'LEFT-hand-Side', WILL be DELETED (ie. in fact, "Archived") - NO LOGER exist.

I hope, that this may help/assist, somewhat.

@Brett . and @RichardLaing3, it sounded to me like the question is about Source Linker, not about merging ...?

In Source Linker, the left-hand side is what's in the index, and the right-hand side is what's in Family Tree. You can change the focus person on either side to get the correct people "in view", and you can move index people to line up with Family Tree people.
