2 Apr 2022 Update Engineers report that they believe they have fixed the 1900 US Census issues. If you experience any of the following problems still, please create a new post to report it. In your post, please @ mention N Tychonievich so we can get this to engineering quickly. Thank you to all our community users for helping us isolate and (hopefully) solve this problem.

Here are ways the problem could manifest itself:

  • You click a record hint and get a Record Removed message
  • You click to view an attached source in Family Tree and get a record removed message.
  • You search the census directly from the Record Collection and find 2 entries for a person--one opens correctly and the other gives a record removed message.
  • Less likely, but might still be occurring: you search the census for a person and find the name in the search results. When you click to look at the record details page, the entry for a different person comes up (usually the head of household) and the household list is either missing or erroneous.

If the record has been removed, it would be lovely to have it removed from the search results. That would instantly solve the problem. A bigger problem are the inane place names assigned to 1900 census records. It's all very depressing.

The record hint for the 1900 United States census still exists, but you get the 401 message. Would it be possible to remove these record hints from the system? I don't want to mark them not a match, but I don't want to attach them, either. See

You didn't say where to send reports. Should they be posted here? I just found several.

@Jordan Mills - I reported a case by creating a new thread and was told that is the preferred way to report. Just an FYI in case you come across more. :)

16 Feb 2022 Important Update Engineers are working on a change that they expect to fix all of the 1900 US Census issues. No need to report additional examples of the problems.
