The project instructions, examples, and the field helps are inconsistent in this project.

For the Baptisms, Birth, Christening examples, the indexer is shown not to index the parent's surname for the child.

For the Burial/Death Records, in the second example, the indexer is told to index the parent's name for the child AND for the wife when a surname was not recorded with either name.

The Project Instructions have the instruction:

  • If a surname was recorded for the child, but not for the parents, index the surname of the child for both of the parents. This is an exception to the General Indexing Guidelines and should not be applied to other projects.

This instruction is omitted in the Deceased Surname's field help.

The field helps for Surnames have the standard instruction not to assume surnames from others on the record.

The project is currently 37% indexed and 24% reviewed. Perhaps these discrepancies can be addressed with a project manager.

Thank you.
