How to disable pop-ups within Family Search?

I do NOT mind the page that appears when I sign in.

However, recently I have experienced new pop-up(s) while on a person's page and/or researching. I don't like THOSE pop-ups since (1) it interrupts my thought processes (I'm getting old), (2) I can't RETURN to the page I was working on, (3) I don't want to see the pop-up every time and/or every day when I am working.

How can I disable the pop-ups?

Thank you.

Thank you for reaching out to this forum,

May we suggest the following, depending on what browser you are using:

How do I keep pop-up blockers from causing issues?

A pop-up blocker on your browser can interfere with how FamilySearch websites function. To allow pop-ups from the FamilySearch websites, use the instructions below to configure your browser.

    Firefox

    1. In the upper right corner of the Firefox window, click the menu button .
    2. Click Options.
    3. On the left side of the screen, click Privacy and Security.
    4. To the right of Block pop-up windows, click Exceptions.
    5. In the Allowed Websites box, enter FamilySearch.
    6. To allow pop-ups from all FamilySearch sites, click Allow.
    7. Click Save Changes.

    Google Chrome

    1. On the browser toolbar, click the Chrome menu button.
    2. Click Settings.
    3. In the Privacy and security section, click Site Settings.
    4. Click Pop-ups and redirects.
    5. Under Allow, click Add, and then type [*.]FamilySearch.org
    6. Click Add.

    Safari

    1. Windows users, click Edit and then Preferences. Mac users, click Safari and then Manage Exceptions.
    2. At the top of the window, click Security.
    3. Click to uncheck the check box next to Block pop-up windows.

    Microsoft Edge

Edge has no pop-up control for specific websites. Either you block pop-ups or you don't. To allow pop-ups, do the following:

    1. Click the Settings and more... button .
    2. Click Settings.
    3. Click Privacy & Security.
    4. Scroll down to Security.
    5. Click the toggle for Block pop-ups to turn it to off.

Note: If you do not want to allow pop-ups for all websites that you visit, you can use another browser that allows website exceptions, such as Chrome or Firefox.

    Troubleshooting tips

A recently released version of the Chrome browser comes with pop-up blocking enabled by default. If the patron does not configure Chrome for FamilySearch.org, the patron cannot generate a family ordinance request (FOR) PDF in preparation for printing. The problem could exist in Firefox as well. Please use the instructions below to configure the browsers.

If I disable pop-ups in Firefox, then possible sources won't be allowed to pop-up. That option won't work (since I need to see pages for sources, ordinances, etc.).

These "new" pop-up window are annoying, repetitive, and distrupts my work. Wouldn't mind once a day or even an email. See them too often and it takes me away from the page where I am working (and I cannot easily return to that page).

I haven't seen any popups from FS on people's pages. Where do they go, or what do they say? You seem to imply that they occur randomly, without your input, which is not how FS works, in my experience, so I'm confused.

    Would a screenshot be possible?

It's happened to me several days. It definitely is NOT an advertisement, but advising of new features. Family Search is THE best. Just don't like the interruptions.

    @2008 rj

    FYI

    It's 'Brett'.

Like 'Julie', I have NOT 'seen', such as you describe ...

[ And, I use, 'Google' "Chrome"; and, 'Mozilla' "FireFox"; and, if needs be, 'Microsoft' "Edge" ... ]

As, 'Julie' has suggested ... a "Screenshot", of what you are experiencing, would certainly hep/assist ...

I'll try to get that for you next time it pops up. It isn't WHAT is says that bothers me. It's WHEN it pops up (when I'm involved) and that it doesnt take me back to the page that I was working on.
