Adding a marriage record in a baptismal batch
I don't know if there is a rule about when to add marriage information which is included in a baptismal batch, but if there was one, I would like it to say to enter the marriage information directly after the baptismal entry. I am reviewing today and it is doubly difficult to review a marriage record clearly attached to a baptism name, but found at the end of the batch.
Just a thought.
Generally, the project directions tell you whether or not to add the extraneous marginal records. Usually you don't. But, it definitely depends on the project.
Here is a sentence from the Help Center article on Indexing information written in the margins.
Occasionally, information was written in the margin of a document that is not being indexed in the project. For example, in baptism records marriage information may have been added about the child’s parents (names, date, and place). In these situations, do not index an entry for the notes in the margin. Index only the information on the main record.
However, this seems to conflict with previous information I have received, in that we should enter the marginal information, unless the instructions specifically say not to.0
That was incorrect information. When the project instructions say to add the marginal information, only then do you do so. There has not been a generic project instruction that says not to index marginal information. There was one project in the recent past with an instruction to index those marginal notes - but it is very rare to see that instruction.1
