"If it ain't broke, why fix it"
Am I alone in wishing we had the old search records page back? Changing sides for the two sections, while a minor issue, seems to be totally unnecessary and returning to the search page after viewing a record is no longer just a matter of one click. If it ain't broke, don't fix it seems to apply, but if it is broke, fix what is broken, namely bringing up records that are requested rather than dozens (hundreds?) of those which are not required.
Requesting records from a certain area in England can generate dozens from America, requesting birth records for an individual can generate the majority of them (if not all) with that individual as a father/mother rather than as a child. While it is valuable to "look outside the box" when searching, much valuable time could be saved if the records requested (if available) were provided first, and the extended search was an option (which it was, if you didn't specify a particular region).

There are OTHER posts throughout this Forum, where the instigator of the above posts has responded with, advice; direction; instruction; help/assistance, on the NEW "Results" page/screen, of "Records Search" ('FamilySearch').

You may like to ADD, your thoughts/comments, in those particular posts; so that, your thoughts/comments, like those of MANY other UNHAPPY Users/Patrons, ARE 'seen', by the Team, in 'FamilySearch', that 'Designed'; and, 'Developed" the NEW look "Search".
As you can 'see' from those posts ...
DESPITE, all the NEGATIVE 'Feedback', with regard to the NEW "Results" page/screen, for "Search Records", from those that matter, the 'lowly' User/Patrons, where the NEW "Results" page/screen, for "Search Records", was 'foisted' upon them; BEFORE, being "Fully" released to ALL User/Patrons - 'FamilySearch' RELEASED the NEW "Results" page/screen, for "Search Records", to ALL Users/Patrons.
As I already suggested ...
You are not alone ...
We are ALL 'Struggling'; and, NEED "Help", with the NEW "Results" page/screen, for "Search Records", which is NOT very 'User Friendly'.
MOST Users/Patrons want the NEW "Results" page/screen, for "Search Records" to be "Reverted" BACK to the PREVIOUS "Results" page/screen, for "Search Records".
But ...
That Said ...
SADLY, I doubt that will happen ...
And ...
Finally ...
'FamilySearch' has made, MINOR "Changes", to the NEW "Search Records"; and, the resulting "Results" page/screen, hopefully such will keep occurring ...
I know, that this may NOT help/assist; but, I hope, that this gives you, some additional, insight; and, perspective.

I have yet to encounter a single person here in Community who had good things to say about the new search interface. There are dozens upon dozens of threads complaining about the non-intuitive and click-and-scroll-intensive arrangement, the excess whitespace that renders it unusable on smaller or lower-resolution screens, the lack of visibility of the current search parameters, and above all, the apparent disregard of one's search terms.
That said, one part of its behavior that you've mentioned is not new to this interface: the old search returned parents when you searched for births, too. The difference was that in the old interface, removing the unwanted results with a top-level birthplace filter ("Continental Europe" usually worked for me) was straightforward, and could be done without any popups or anything else obscuring the search results. Now it's bubbles and popups and click after click after click, and the results layout is like trying to view a portrait gallery through the keyhole on the door.
