How can I upload a GEDCOM file?

I am trying to upload a GEDCOM file (size about 9.5 MB) created by FamilyTree Maker 2019 to Family Search. The transfer didn't start and issued an error note: "Unable to upload files larger than 300 MB".

The last upload I did six month ago worked without any problems !

Is there a solution possible?

    FYI

    Welcome to the "Community.FamilySearch" Forum.

    I am just another 'lowly' User/Patron ...

    Just in passing ...

    I have 'seen', a few posts of late, regarding problems/issues, regarding the "Upload", of GEDOM Files, in 'FamilySearch', that were UNDER the "File" Size LIMIT; as, in your case.

    And, I am not certain that there was any particular commonality.

    'Yes', the "File" Size of your GEDCOM File seems to be well UNDER the size LIMIT ...

    And, even, the suggested size being:

    • We recommend that you submit small GEDCOM files of no more than100 names. After the upload, smaller files make the compare and copy process easier to manage.
    • If you intend to simply preserve and share your file, it can contain up to 100 MB.

    Now ...

    That Said ...

    I have NOT used "FamilyTree Maker 2019" ...

    I could be TOTALLY wrong here; and, I stand corrected, if I am wrong ...

    I notice, that "FamilyTree Maker 2019", DOES NOT, appear to be, in the "Solutions Gallery", of 'FamilySearch.

    I am not saying, adversely; but, perhaps, "FamilyTree Maker 2019", is not a "Third Party" Application, that is "Certified" to work, with "Family Tree", of 'FamilySearch'.

    And, as such, just thinking out aloud here, perhaps, the GEDCOM Files, produced through "FamilyTree Maker 2019", are not compatible with 'FamilySearch' - just a thought.

    The aforementioned, is all speculation on my part.

    As, it is ODD, that a GEDOM File, with such SMALL "File" Size, would be getting such an ERROR Message.

    Here are a couple of "Knowledge Articles", in 'FamilySearch':

    https://www.familysearch.org/en/help/helpcenter/article/how-do-i-upload-my-gedcom-file

    Good Luck.

    Just my thoughts.

    I know, that this certainly may not help/assist; but, I hope, that this may provide you with, some additional, insight; and, perspective; plus, other avenues to pursue.

    I am also unable to post a family tree gedcom with the same result - Unable to upload files larger than 300mb. The file is only 1.5mb. I have have tried uploading a gedcom generated from both GenesReunited and Ancestry with exactly the same result

    I was successful to upload the same file to Ancestry and Geneanet, so it must be a problem with Family Search.

    'Heads-Up ...

    "Up-Date" ...

    FYI

    There is CURRENTLY, a problem/issue, with regards, to the "Upload", of GECOM Files, into 'FamilySearch'.

    That is NOW, a "Confirmed", KNOW, problem/issue, that is being INVESTIAGTED.

    Here is a recent post confirming such ...

    @Ulrich Kohlstaedt

    Thank you for sharing your experience. FamilySearch has been made aware of the problem with uploading GEDCOMS that you encountered recently and we are working to correct the problem. The North America team is aware of this concern and is trying to resolve the issue but I believe more examples are needed. If you have screen shots of what you see when you attempt to upload your GEDCOM, that they could prove useful.

    While your account indicates you are in the United States, the .de domain for your email address would indicate otherwise. Since there is live phone support in Germany and Switzerland at 00-800-1830-1830, if you are in that part of Europe, you might want to call FamilySearch support team to report your concern there as well.

    We are working to resolve this issue so please check back from time to time.

    As of today, the issue still seems to exist. My GEDCOM file is just over 5MB but the upload site says it's unable to upload any files over 300MB and will not accept the upload. I hope this is sorted soon.

    @Ulrich Kohlstaedt

    I have been able to verify that the GEDCOM you submitted in September which contained more than 30,000 names is successfully uploaded and ready to review so that you can move new records into Family Tree. Is this the file you were concerned about when you posted your recent message on January 23rd? If it isn't please try uploading any additional GEDCOMs you have created.

    @MELANIEDUFFY3

    I still do not see your GEDCOM file, but would you please try uploading it again?

    We have been told as a support team that the problem with uploading GEDCOM files has been resolved as of February 3rd, so if you try your upload after deleting FamilySearch cookies and temporary files and you still cannot accomplish this task, please post here and I will contact you personally so that we can try to gather all of the details about your operating system, your browser and browser version, and your step-by-step experience. With detailed information I can forward your concern if you are still having issues since this problem should now be resolved.

    Anyone else who reads this post is also invited to try to upload their GEDCOM. If any of you have problems, please post your message through this discussion so that we can try to troubleshoot what is happening.

    Thank you for your patience as we work with the FamilySearch engineers to be sure the system is acting as designed. You must be able to work with the filters associated with a GEDCOM that has been successfully uploaded to be able to add new individuals to Family Tree through a GEDCOM. You will also then be able to compare your GEDCOM information with any existing records that are already part of Family Tree.

    I found this article in February 2023 and can assure you that the problem is NOT fixed. My tree is considerably smaller but I keep getting the "must be smaller than 300 MB" error message. I would be delighted to share my research, but not at the cost of manually reentering the whole darned thing into Family Search. Since Family Search can't even find my own mother, this suggests I'd have to manually enter all my ancestors in painstaking detail which I'm simply not willing to do. Fix this and I'll play. Or not, up to you.

    @LesaMcComas it may be easier to divide your information and upload it in batches rather than one file. Also, if you enter basic information connecting yourself with a deceased relative, often times there is already information found within the FamilySearch Family Tree. You would not have to manually enter everything, but just add what you have to what is found here to create a more complete view of the people found in both locations.
