A huge inaccurate mess
Every time I look at the One World Tree, more and more incorrect information has been added on my ancestors. It's a big hopeless mess. I don't plan to use it anymore. What on earth is the use of having this tree where anyone can make a hash of the information. Why do people enter things when they have no evidence for what they're entering?

Hello,
family Search keeps sending me emails from time to time. The reason I am not prepared to become a member or pay for your services is that there is at least one error in my tree and there seems no way to make corrections. I have looked at your help page and it is so complicated that I don’t think I can sort the errors .
My great grandfather on my maternal line was Alexander MacGregor Robbie, b1863 d1933. His wife, my great-grandmother, was Rebecca Howie Laird, b1864, d1951.
The duplicate Alexander MacGregor Robbie that you have on my paternal line has MacGregor incorrectly spelled and the entry should be deleted. He was no relation to my father’s line of the family. There is a typing error on the entry but I cannot correct it.
Also, I thought when I first provided information on the site, I had included my grandchildren, my siblings and other ancestors on my maternal line. However, a lot of this is missing.
Unless Family Search can help me correct these errors, I would rather the whole account t is deleted. It is not a patch on Genes Reunited, which is very user-friendly,
Thanks for allowing me to comment.

The first thing to note is that FamilySearch is free to use and will never request payment (though there is a page where you can donate).
Where are you seeing the information? If it is a historical record such as vital record or census, then what the record says must stand. It is the job of genealogists to deal with conflicting and biased evidence. If there is an mistranscription of the original record, you may be able to edit it; the availability of this depends on various technical and legal factors.
If it is a family tree uploaded by someone else, then it cannot be edited. If it is in the FamilySearch Family Tree (FSFT), then you can (and should) edit it. The FSFT is a single family tree for all humanity that any FS user can edit.
Feel free to attach screenshot or provide more information so that we can help you better.

Hi Allison.
So sorry to hear about your challenges. I always have my own database so I always know what the correct information should be and then export it into FS. I have worked with FS for over 30 years, and yes I can see what is the trouble. Every so often I find my relatives recorded more than once and I can literary match and merge the family for hours. Since the FS wants a person in the system only once, it will be a challenge. Not so much with the living. You are the only one who can see your living relatives. In your case, it might be that some of your relatives have put you or some of your relatives in. I use Legacy as my personal database, and here I have chosen to put in the personal identification number FS uses. Then I can check which id I have in FS. You can always search your Id. It's more accurate. And by the way, I live in Europe and we don't pay for using FamilySearch. I thought that FS is free for all users....? If you allow me to help you, could you give me the PI number (Eg: GH7-JP2) to your relatives. There are so many with the same names. I want to be sure it is your relatives. Best regards, Johanne Hernes. Consultant Drammen Ward, Norway

Concerning editing: It should be easy to correct it. BUT you must tap the "edit" tab to edit to correct name. If you have a source for your information, it would be great. FS loves correct sources.

FYI
Welcome to the "Community.FamilySearch" Forum.
I am just another 'lowly' User/Patron ...
Just in passing ...
Now ...
That Said ...
Your "Ancestral" Lines, are most likely ALSO another User's/Patron's "Ancestral" Lines, in fact, probably, that of quite a few other Users/Patrons.
Perhaps, you are not fully aware of some things ...
So ...
Just in case ...
Here an old 'standby' of mine, that I have previously proffered on occasion ...
------------------
Most new (and, some old) Users/Patrons DO NOT understand the basic 'nature' and 'premise', of the "Family Tree" Part, of 'FamilySearch', when they join in.
Please let me explain ...
We do not have our OWN "Tree", in the "Family Tree" Part, of 'FamilySearch'.
We ONLY have "Branches" (ie. Ancestral" lines), that are interconnected, in this SINGLE "One" World "Tree", for all of us, that is the "Family Tree" Part, of 'FamilySearch'.
The "Family Tree" Part, of 'FamilySearch', is NOT like 'On-Line' "Websites" (eg. "Ancestry_com"; or "MyHeritage_com"; or, the like); and/or, 'standalone' personal (computer) programmes (eg, the OLD, now no longer supported, "PAF"; or, "Ancestral Quest"; or, the like).
We DO NOT have "Private"/"Personal" 'Trees', in the "Family Tree" Part, of 'FamilySearch', like other 'On-Line' "Websites"; and/or, 'standalone' personal (computer) programmes.
We do not even, own; or, manage; and, are NOT even responsible for, the "Deceased" individuals/persons, in "Family Tree" Part, of 'FamilySearch'.
And, most importantly ...
We DO NOT even, own; or, manage; and, are NOT even responsible for, Our OWN "Deceased" Ancestors/Family/Relatives, in the "Family Tree" Part, of 'FamilySearch'.
The "Family Tree" Part, of 'FamilySearch', is built on a "Open Edit" Platform - hence, why any "Registered" User/Patron can "Edit" (ie. Add, Delete; and/or, Change) ANY "Deceased" individual/person, in the "Family Tree" Part, of 'FamilySearch'.
------------------
Now ...
That Said ...
All that one can really do, is 'Monitor', our "Ancestral" Lines, for 'wayward' CHANGES, by OTHER Users/Patrons.
Nothing more, nothing less ...
We ALL make MISTAKES ...
NONE of us are Perfect ...
Plus ...
IF, you were not already aware; THEN, ...
In "Family Tree" of "FamilySearch' ...
We have the ability to "Watch" (Oops, sorry, 'old school', "Follow"), up to a MAXIMUM of x4000 individuals/persons, at any given time
Basically ...
It is a matter of "Following" our MOST important Ancestors.
Just to keep on top of any 'wayward' CHANGES.
I check, the "Changes" to those that I "Follow", on a "Daily" Basis; so that, I can keep on top of things.
More often that not, nothing needs to be done; but, at least, I have the opportunity, to be abreast of things; as, they happen/transpire/unfold.
Finally ...
The "Family Tree" Part, of 'FamilySearch', with the basic 'nature' and 'premise', of a SINGLE "One" World "Tree", coupled with; being, built on a "Open Edit" Platform, is certainly NOT for all.
Just my thoughts.
I know, that this certainly does not help/assist; but, I hope, that this may provide you with, some additional, insight; and, perspective.
Brett
