request permision to do Temple work

I have a suggestion. It is difficult to do Temple work for people close to you. Eg brother or Sister. Uncle or Aunt. Or the spouses of these people.

To do the work for these people is not possible in many cases as the requirement to do the work needs permission from other sources such as sibling or living spouse.

When my brother died I had to get his wife to OK me doing the work. I was able to get her OK but many people are not so lucky.

I do not see why I had to get permission from my brothers wife to do his work. He is my brother and I have a closer blood relationship than her.

I was lucky that she was receptive to my request and has since joined the Church.

I know the Church is trying to protect itself from people taking legal action in regards to doing the work.

A better way would be for the Church to have the person wanting to do the work for people making a case in writing then signing a form taking responsibility for doing the work and any legal action that might follow. I would have taken the responsibility to do my brother without asking his wife. If she had a complaint it would be directed to me and I would have to deal with the issue.

At the moment there are people in my tree like my Fathers sister that I have to get permission to do her work. I will be trying to get the Ok but may not get the OK from family. I would be only to happy to do this myself and take any flack from family members.

The church could have a data base that records these people and does not make the ordinances visible until a 110 years has passed from date of birth.

That way nobody can view the completed ordinances except myself until the 110 year date is reached. That way I can get the work done in a private way in the Temple without non member family members being able to see the completed work. Could be done as a way of protecting the privacy of the deceased person. What they cannot see will not create issues where family members may be concerned. To prevent another person doing the work again the deceased person could have a lock symbol with a note " Not available until 110 year has passed.

If another Church member submits a request to do the work they can be informed the work is done.

At the moment non members cannot view Temple work on the family tree they create. Only Church members see this work. If they see a lock symbol then they will know the work is completed.

    @Ferguson Kenneth , you will be better served if you posted this to the Temple Category rather than the Family Tree category. Just FYI you do not need to have a spouse's permission to do work for a Sibling unless the circumstances were such as to cause too much family friction. In that case you should use good judgment.

    @Ferguson Kenneth

    Thank you for posting in the Community about ordinances and permission required from close family members. It was good for you to ask your brothers wife for permission out of courtesy. You could have completed it without, but do so was a good choice to ask.

    You might wish to add your ideas to the "Suggest an Idea" section so the engineers can consider them.

    Here are some of my thoughts about your post. If the database did not show completed ordinances until 110 years had passed, many others would also be doing them, because of the different ID numbers, and when the time passes there could be a lot of completed ordinances for each person. Also people want to see the dates, and be sure the records are accurate. The current way is so we can cut down on duplication of effort.

    When the ordinance work is completed, it does not show who was the proxy. It would be very difficult to record all the names, as well as the ordinance dates and temples. Our task is to complete the ordinances as a service.
