I was baptized in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. How can I get the date and information on that baptism?
These answers are good as far as they go but they assume that Valerie is still a member of the Church, and is still attending the unit she was baptised in. If you do / are then follow the advice given. If not, were you baptised as a child? If so, do you remember where you were baptised? If not, do you have contact with anyone who was at your baptism? Once you have found answers to these questions you can again follow the advice given previously with the unit you were baptised into. Good luck.0
@VALERIE HILL-Childress , just put in your current address into the building locator link. That will give you the closest place to you now. Go by on a Sunday and talk to the clerk there. It should be no problem finding your record information on the computerized membership system with your name and birth information. The building locator link will also give you a phone number of the Bishop of that Ward building and you could just call him if you prefer. A MOD should also be able to give you the Church HQ number in Salt Lake and then you could call them and ask for the Membership department and start there. The information you want is available, your current membership status does not matter, it just getting to the right person that can take some effort.
@Chas Howell, this query doesn't really refer to the temple, so there wouldn't be any benefit in moving the thread there. The issue is baptism and membership.
@VALERIE HILL-Childress you don't say whether you are still living in the area you were baptised in. If you are then you can follow the previous advice to contact the local unit(s) of the church. If not, try to contact the unit in your current location using the locator link previously shared.
As converts your original membership record would have been generated by the Mission Office for that area. Have you tried reaching out to them? They may still have that information, depending on how long ago it was.
Have you moved around since your baptism? Your membership record may not be in your current unit. You may have to contact several units to get the information you require. Your parents and / or siblings may be able to help fill in the blanks.
If both of your parents have forgotten the details of your baptism it may be worth reaching out to your siblings for that information.
Good luck with your search.2
Thanks for asking about obtaining your baptism details. There are a couple of easy ways to get this:
- Since you are asking about yourself, ask your Ward Clerk to get the details for you.
- Download LDS TOOLS app from the app store, then sign in and it should show you your Ward membership list. Click on your name and click on the membership tab on your name page. The details should be there. By the way, if you are not familiar with who your ward clerk is, LDS Tools will have that information too.
We hope this has been useful to you. Best of success in finding the details you are seeking.0

@John L. Kennedy , that's why I gave her the locator link. The process can start there. They can order her records up and give her the information she wants. There are a lot of various circumstances as you point out. Since you are a MOD why don't you move this thread to the Temple section where it more properly belongs?1
Mod Note: One post edited to remove personally-identifying information.0
@John L. Kennedy, this particular non-LDS user of Communities would greatly appreciate if everything LDS was moved to the Temple category. Please.1
@John L. Kennedy I agree with Julia's comment above. In my opinion the General Questions category on this FamilySearch forum is not the place for a discussion on Ordinances or membership specific to the Church. Furthermore Valerie would be better served by those members who monitor the Temple Category even though the issue does not specifically relate to the Temple.1
I just needed help and and didn't know where to go. I have moved several times and live out of the state. Thanks for the help and for the rude comment about calling me a non member is rude. I was baptized. I am STILL LDS member. Again ty for the people that helped. I wanted to add this information to the family tree.2
You said you wanted to add your baptism information to Family Tree. Please be aware that the information on ordinance will not show on Family Tree until you are deceased. Your name is in a Private space, and ordinances are Not Available in a private space. The Help Center article states:
Ordinances of living people are listed as "Not Available" in Family Tree for privacy reasons. Some examples are below:
- Sealing to parents for a deceased individual whose parents are living.
- Sealing to spouse for a deceased individual whose spouse is living.
Family Tree sometimes displays "BIC (Born in the Covenant)" for a living person's sealing to parents.
You can view membership and ordinance information for yourself and minors living in your household on ChurchofJesusChrist.org, in the Member Tools app, or through a ward or branch clerk.
Hope this clarifies the issue.0
