Disclaimer: Response as Community member without knowing the particular Project/Instructions.
In the past I've heard two options - the first being considered the general rule:
- index the most recent/current spouse - the researcher will have to notice the previous spouse(s)
- create another Entry for the primary person (who the record is about) and enter the other spouse(s)
If the Project Instructions/Field Help don't indicate otherwise - I guess you can decide. Otherwise I guess someone from the Project will need to update the Instructions.
It might help to include the Project code (last code at the end of the Project Name).

Sadly, I could not open the batch. But, the general rule is:
When the document lists multiple spouses or parents, index only the current spouse or parents. Here are some quick guidelines for these situations:
- For multiple spouses, index only the present or current spouse.
- For multiple parents, such as a set of birth parents and a set of adoptive parents, index only the current set of adoptive parents.
- Do not add records to include the other individuals. The information is not lost. After we publish the records, researchers can view the image and gather any additional information in it.
If you cannot determine which was the most recent husband, just index the first one listed.
