My brothers wife has recently passed away, but FamilySearch says she is still living, and says I should contact FamilySearch Support. I would like to get them sealed. So how do I change this information so that it can be corrected properly? Thank you for all you do I love this website!

    Welcome to the "Community.FamilySearch" Forum.

    I am jut another 'lowly' User/Patron ...

[ And, I happen to be a Member of the Church ... ]

Just a few 'Questions', with 'suggestions':

    (1) Was your Bother's Wife, a Member of the Church?

IF, your Bother's Wife, WAS a Member of the Church; THEN, you should contact, the Ward/Brach of which she was a Member; and, advise the Clerk, of her "Death" (you most likely, will be required to provide proof of Death).

That will enable, the ACTUAL 'FamilySearch Person Identifier" (PID), that is associated "Membership" Record in Church, to be "Changed", from "Living", to "Deceased".

Whether your Bother's Wife, was or was not, a Member of the Church ...

    (2) Where are you 'seeing' this "Living" Record of your Bother's Wife?

IF, you are 'seeing' a "Living" Record of your Bother's Wife, in your 'FamilySearch' Account; THEN, you can "Change" that, from "Living", to "Deceased".

    Whereas ...

IF, you are 'seeing' a "Living" Record of your Bother's Wife, in ANOTHER User's/Patron's 'FamilySearch' Account; THEN, the OTHER User/Patron, can "Change" that, from "Living", to "Deceased".

    Now ...

    That Said ...

Generally, x12 Months / x1 Year, needs to pass; BEFORE, "Temple" Work can be undertaken.

    But ...

    That Said ...

There are certain caveats, for worthy Members of the Church; where, that x12 Months / x1 Year, period will be waived.

Here are some "Knowledge Articles", in 'FamilySearch':

Performing ordinances less than a year after death

I hope, that this may help/assist, somewhat.

Thank you for your response! My brothers wife was not a member of the church, would I still have to contact their ward or branch? Thank you for your answer about changing it from living to deceased that helps me a lot.

I am just glad, that I could provide some help/assistance.

    Short Answer: 'No'.

IF, your Bother's Wife, was NOT a Member of the Church; THEN, no action is required; as, she will NOT have a "Membership" Number, referencing her; as, a Member of the Church.

And, thus, your Bother's Wife, will NOT have a 'FamilySearch Person Identifier' (PID), associated with/to, a "Membership" Number, of the Church (ie. a "Living" Record, that NO one; but, your Bother's Wife would 'see').

    All good.

    Brett.

Thank you so much for your response, I had no troubles changing it from living to deceased. I have requested the ordinance and was wondering how long it usually takes to get that request granted, or get that request approved? do I have to wait a year for it to be approved or undertaken? or is that something different. Thank you for all that you do! And for answering all of my questions! You have a wonderful day!

IF, it is one of those one's where "Permission Required", depending of the situation/circumstances; THEN, not long (either way).

[ Of course, provided that is, that any 'Written' Permission, that is required, is as per the FORMAT required ... ]

We did one for my Wife, just the other day; and, the Work, appeared in her List of "Reservations", the next day; even, before, the "E-mail" advise.

    Whereas ....

IF, it has been LESS than x12 Months, since the death/passing; THEN, that all depends, whether or not, the 'caveats' are met in:

Performing ordinances less than a year after death

    https://www.familysearch.org/en/help/helpcenter/article/performing-ordinances-less-than-a-year-after-death

IF, the 'caveats' are met, THEN, it should not take too long.
