Finding out who performed proxy ordinances

Hello!

I am the only LDS member I know of in my family, and I'm very into family history. I have this feeling I have LDS family in this one state. I found temple work done for ancestors that lived in this suspected state in 2011. Does that make sense?

Let me word it differently in case it doesn't: I have non-LDS ancestors that lived in this state (let's call it "Z") and died over 115 years ago. I found these ancestors on Family Search, and found out someone did proxy ordinances for them in 2011. (Also, this is all in the United States.)

Hopefully that makes sense. Now here is where my question comes in. I don't know of any family in this state, and I don't know of any LDS family. To find LDS family in this state "Z" would be a dream come true. My guess is these people who performed these ordinances are LDS people in "Z" who are related to me. My ancestors are from the city these ordinances were done in, so it feels like a lead. Can I find out who performed these ordinances? The living people who did proxy for my ancestors (who might be related to me)?

Is there any other way to find out about living ancestors in these states? I haven't even been baptized a year yet, so there's lots of work to do still, even though I've been working my butt off. But finding out who did these ordinances would really be amazing for me.

We would love to help you find possible relatives, but information about who performed the ordinances is not available.

We would suggest you study the Latest Changes section on the person page of your ancestors to see if other contributor's names are listed there. Listed under the date a change was made, you will find the display name of the person who edited or added information to the record. If you click on the display name, you can message that person. This may help you discover those with whom you share common ancestry.

We hope you have success finding other members you are related to. Best Wishes!

Congratulations on your baptism and on your family history work! FamilySearch does not keep records of individuals who performed the temple ordinances. However, there are a couple of things you can do:

    1. Go to the PID of the ancestor you are interested in and see who has been working/researching this individual.
    2. Go to the "Change Log." (This is on the right side, and will say "Latest changes.") Click on "Show All." This will take you to the all the changes on this person.
    3. You will be able to see who made the change, i.e., added the document, changed dates.
    4. You'll be able to click on the person's name and send him/her a private email. You can ask if they are related and any other questions you may have.
    5. You can also click on "Enable Relationship Viewing." This is in the box where you send an email. If the other person also 'enables Relationship Viewing," you will be able to see how the two of you are related.

Best of wishes in your family history work!

    Welcome to the "Community.FamilySearch" Forum.

    I am just another 'lowly' User/Patron ...

[ And, I happen to be a Member of the Church ... ]

    Just in passing ...

Many of us are "Converts" to the Church ...

Over the years, many of us just like you, have LOVED to find out, who was responsible for the "Temple" Work of some of our Ancestors; especially, when one is the ONLY "Known" one, in one's immediate and extended Family, associated with the Church.

And, believe me, often, following the advice, that has already been proffered, actually works; and, one can, get in contact, with OTHERS (ie. Users/Patrons), from one's immediate an extended Family, that are Members of the Church.

And, I have done so, not only in my Country; but, also, in many Countries around the World (including the USA).

    But ...

    That Said ...

Please be aware, that such is not always the case - sometimes, one is not able to do so ...

    As such ...

Having been been in your position ...

I wish you all the best; and, I hope, that you have success (and, joy); as, I have had.

As, it is really something SPECIAL, to find, that one is NOT the ONLY Member of the Church, in one's Family.

    Now ...

    That Said ...

    Back to reality ...

    [ And, not to discourage ... ]

Just so that you are, aware; and, prepared ...

[ In light, of that 'Date', of 2011, for the Work ... ]

Here is a "Knowledge Article", in 'FamilySearch':

Can I find out who completed the temple ordinance for my ancestors?

    https://www.familysearch.org/en/help/helpcenter/article/can-i-find-out-who-completed-the-temple-ordinance-for-my-ancestors

Do not be discouraged, you may still get lucky (ie. Be "Blessed") ...

    Keep trying ...

    Never give up ...

    And, for future reference ...

Here are a couple of Articles, in the 'FamilySearch' "Wiki", that may come in handy. later on:

    Good Luck.

    All the best.

    Just some thoughts.

I know, that this may not help/assist; but, I hope, that this provides you, with some additional, insight; and, perspective.

Hi Jessica. I may be able to help, depending on which branch of your ancestors you are asking about. Send me a PM.
