Reserved list 300 people
I have a suggestion to improve the use of the 300 max names in my reserved list.
At the present when you have added 300 names or Ordinances to the list you cannot add any more.
This is a good idea but has room for improvement. It would be more useful if the list were broken up into ordinances as follows:
- Baptism 190
- Initiatory 30
- Endowment 10
- Sealing to Parents 60
- Sealing to spouse 10
That makes 300 ordinances that are ready to do. Using this system I can share all my names with the Temple system and then draw out those ordinances I am ready to do. This gives me the flexibility of selecting different Ordinances that I can do.
It will also make the duplication of printing more than one card less likely as the ability to print cards is limited to those in your reserved list.
It allows the other ordinances to remain in Shared Temple list to be picked up either by myself the Temple or another researcher as the ordinance becomes available. Using Shared Temple file as a base to select ordinances from allows me to select available ordinances from the file and to complete them. By having limited numbers for each ordinance will make it possible to complete the selected ordinances and then to select more to do. This way all names remain in the shared list where myself Temple file or another researcher can access.
Using the shared Temple list as a base to reserve names from Family Tree will allow me to keep adding family names to the system even when my reserved list is full. Share with the Temple then select the ordinance you are able to do. Leaving the unfinished work ready for others to pick up such as Temple file.
By adding them to the Temple shared file the work will eventually get done. It means that I do not have to add names to Family Tree and leave them in the system where they may never be picked up by another researcher because I cannot reserve them because my list is full. It should be possible to add the name to Shared Temple list even when my reserved list is full. That way I can pick them up when I have emptied my file and can add more to the list.
At least being in the shared Temple file they have a good chance of getting the work completed by myself Temple or another researcher.
Having limited number of ordinances in my reserved rather than people as a whole will allow me to monitor the work in the system and select those ordinances I am able to do.
The numbers in the list as suggested is all work that a person can do in the Temple if they are dedicated.
I have a group of people who meet monthly in the Temple and we as a group get about 400 baptism done. I get about 60 done from my list generally. That means in 4 months I can complete my 190 baptism's.
The same applies for the other ordinances. Generally about 2 months should see the other work completed except for Endowments. They will take about 12 months to complete unless you get a friend to help.
The suggested system will allow me to have ordinances ready to do in the Temple every time I attend.
Being able to share names and then to select ordinances to do will keep the work moving forward. All people should share with the Temple then draw out ordinances to do.
They can still select a individual to do all ordinances such as a parents or child or close relative etc. Anybody they are wanting to do.
I am happy to leave ordinances in shared Temple file and pick them up as I can do them. If I were to complete Baptism & Confirmation for somebody and then another person or the Temple picked up Initiatory and then another Endowment and another Sealing It does not matter as the work gets done. Usually you will find the ordinances will be ready for you to pick up the Initiatory etc. It is usually Temple file who pick up a ordinance that is ready. Sometime another person. You will generally find the work will be waiting for you to pick up.
If you die at least the work you have put into shared Temple file will eventually get done.
The Temple is all about ordinances being completed. Having a system that allows you to select available ordinances from your shared list will simplify the work and insure you are able to get the work done.
God bless.

@Ferguson Kenneth thanks for sharing your detailed thoughts on this. This subject has really gotten a lot of comments on it, hasn't it!? It seems if FamilySearch would simply open up being able to directly share with the temple, once someone has reached their 300 mark, it would really streamline this. I love progress even though adjusting to change is sometimes difficult!
Thanks again for your ideas!

It would make the system flow easy if all names were first put into shared Temple list then you draw out ordinances you are able to complete. When you finish those you take out you can draw more out to do. That way nobody gets locked up in the system and people are able to do work that is available. The Temple file will also take out work to do when the system is ready.
Family tree will then allow you to add names to Shared list even when your file is full in your reserved list. Will help the work move forward without leaving any body behind.
Using shared Temple list as the base will allow all people to use the system effectively. Those who do a lot of work and those who do a small amount of work. Nobody gets held up. All can do the work at the pace that suits them.
