Reviewer contacting indexer

Reviewers cannot contact indexers. However, there is a form which can be used if you wish to send a batch back for reindexing and at the same time notify FamilySearch that the indexer might need a little help. To use the Reasons to Reindex Batch form, with the batch open, click on the Help tab, click on Labs, activate the form, refresh the browser. Pull the batch up again, click Batch, Reindex Batch, the form will appear for the reviewer to fill out.
With reviewers only having to index 1000 names before being granted review rights, having them contact the indexers could be a disaster. There is no way of knowing if these reviewers understand the "small, but, important questions" let alone the big important questions. When we had arbitration, which supposedly involved some training to become an arb and 30,000 or more records indexed, there were alot of reviewers who didn't read the instructions, and didn't know the basic indexing guidelines.
If you have questions, please ask on this site. There are a lot of experienced indexers/arbitrators/reviewers able to give assistance.

I think they should bring back the arbitrators. They would be a nice bridge between the plain indexers and reviewers, and the mods on this site. And with having the 30k minimum or even higher, it would insure that they are well versed in family search and have been around for quite awhile. That way they can take care of all the questions on here while the mods focus on improving the site and other technical functions.

Really good point Melissa:
"With reviewers only having to index 1000 names before being granted review rights, having them contact the indexers could be a disaster. There is no way of knowing if these reviewers understand the "small, but, important questions" let alone the big important questions. "
That's why in at least one version of my Feedback proposal I suggested revisiting the qualifications for becoming a Reviewer. Or, the feedback option could be limited to only those who have Reviewed some large number of records (20,000?) or more.

Much problems would be fixed or understood better if examples showing how to index a record was shown for all the different types records in a particular group were identified. I have been doing Tract records and the one that i do the most of has no example of how to do it. ---The different types of entries for the same entry show that apparently some dates are not that important or the event is not since no instructions, except normal guidelines which may not apply in these records since they are subject to interpretation by the indexers and reviewers.
