Have searched. So far, unable to determine which file formats are allowed when attaching files to questions, discussion items and comments. Suggest that a Help Center article (or similar) be written that gives this information.

    Hi @Kenneth William Rees

Here are filename extensions the system claims are allowed. I have successfully uploaded JPG and PNG graphics files. As expected, I have not been allowed to upload a PDF file but have not recently tested the others to confirm whether all advertised "allowed" file times are really allowed. During the pre-release period of this platform, I recall that some of the advertised "allowed" file types weren't allowed. I'd be surprised if an Excel file were allowed. But for the record, here is what I got when I tried to upload a PDF file (which I knew the system would reject). I get the same message when I try to upload a file with the paper clip "upload file" icon as with the "upload image" icon. So, I presume that these are the only possible "allowed" file types.

Supposed Allowed Extensions for Uploading to FS Community.jpg

    @Kenneth William Rees

    Kenneth

    I am just another 'lowly' User/Patron ...

[ But, one who has been participating in the "Community.FamilySearch" Forum for a number of Years ... ]

    Just in passing ...

And, providing that you are referencing this "Community.FamilySearch" Forum ...

    Please be aware ...

The use, of this CURRENT ("Vanilla") Platform, upon which this "Community.FamilySearch" Forum, NOW, operates, is relatively "New", to/for 'FamilySearch'.

The CURRENT ("Vanilla") Platform, is a bought, 'off the shelf', "Third Party", Software Programme, to run this "Community.FamilySearch" Forum; and, is being also 'customised' (by that "Third Party"); as, situations/circumstances arise, to suit the needs of the Forum.

    Plus ...

Such is all so "New", that 'FamilySearch' will NOT have had the 'Time', to 'caught-up', with producing "Knowledge Articles", for this "Community.FamilySearch" Forum.

We are ALL (including those responsible) ... 'flying by the seat of our pants' ... and ... learning ... 'on the fly'

    In regards to "Images" ...

I have been able to simply take a "Screenshot" directly from, the likes of "Family Tree", of 'FamilySearch' (or, this "Community.FamilySearch" Forum); and, often, "Paste" such, DIRECTLY into posts, in this Forum, without any problems/issues.

I generally use one, of a number, of "Extensions", to take such "Screenshots" (eg. "FireShot").

And, sometimes, I simply just use the likes of "prt sc" (ie. "Print Screen") to take a "Screenshots".

I have not problems/issues just simply "Pasting" such directly into a posts.

    But ...

    That Said ...

I more often than NOT, "Paste" the "Screenshot", into the likes of "MSPaint", to "Edit", often to 'redact' certain parts of the "Screenshot", saving the resultant "Image"; as, a "jepg" File (or, sometimes, jpg; gif; png, bmp; tiff, File); before, posting into posts.

    Now ...

    That Said ...

    Please be further aware ...

That whenever an "Image", is "Uploaded", to this "Community.FamilySearch" Forum, that "Image" is subject to "Image Moderation", just like (in fact, exactly like) the "Memories" in 'FamilySearch'.

Hence, why, INITIALLY, in posts, in this Forum, there is a "Blue Rectangle", with an "Hour Glass", like Icon; where, the "Image" is; which, is an indication, that an "Image", is being subjected, to "Image Moderation".

IF, any "Images" passes "Image Moderation; THEN, that "Image", will appear, in the post, 'in-situ'.

    Whereas ...

IF, any "Images" FAILS "Image Moderation; THEN, that "Image" will NOT appear, in the post - just a "Blue Rectangle", with a "Circle, with a Line through it" Icon.

    Plus ...

IF, an "Image" FAILS "Image Moderation; THEN, the User/Patron who posted such, WILL be "Notified", of such, through a 'Message", in this Forum.

In regards to Attaching Files ...

I have not tried attaching too many "Files" ...

I simply add a URL (ie. "Link") to any "Document" (eg. "Knowledge Article").

One can just include, simply the URL (ie. "Link"), as is, without anything else; and/or, also, "Press" 'Enter', straight after the URL (ie. "Link"), to get an "Imaged" Portion, of the URL (ie. "Link"), to appear; OR, both.

In regard to either, "Media"; or, "Upload File" ...

I have not tried "uploading" any, "Media"; or, "Upload File" ...

So, I cannot comment on such.

    Just my thoughts.

I know that this may not help/assist; but, I hope that this provides some, insight; and, perspective.

    Brett
