No given first name

I have a death record of a live birth where the child only lived 4 hours. The record does not give a first name, only says infant. Apparently not having a legitimate first name does not meet the requirement for sealing to parents. What needs to be done to allow this sealing to take place?

    @Bill Juszcak

    Thank you for your question.

    Here is information from an article in the Help Center titled: Temple Ordinances for Unnamed Children.

    • For an individual with an unknown name or a child who died without receiving a name, enter only the last name of the father or family name into the surname field. Do not enter a first name. Do not enter Mr., Miss, son, or daughter. Be sure the sex is correctly entered as male or female.

    As is always the case, you will need a standard date and place in the record.

    Best Wishes.

    I am just another 'lowly' User/Patron ...

    [ And, I happend to be a Member of the Church... ]

    Further to what 'CJTobler' has already proffered ...

    An unnamed infant, that DOES NOT have a 'Given' [ie. "First Name(s)"], DOES meet the requirements (of course, provided, they have a 'Family Name'/'Surname') for "Temple" Work; and, is NOT precluded, from receiving "Temple" Work.

    All that is NEED, is a 'Family Name'/'Surname' ...

    The use of the "Word", of "Infant" (or, the like), should NOT be included/appear, in the "First Names" Field, for such that are "unnamed"; as, such is NOT a name, merely, a way to reference the unnamed infant, in contextual sense.

    Once the 'Words', such as "Infant" (and/or, the like), is REMOVED, from the "First Names" Field; and, that Field left "Blank" (plus, NOTHING in the "Title" Field); the, the "Temple" Work, WILL / CAN be able to be "Requested".

    Please be aware, that when the "Temple" Cards are printed, for such an "Unnamed" Child/Infant, the "System" AUTOMATICALLY includes/adds, Mr. or Miss to the name, on the "Temple" Card, for "Temple" Work purposes.

    Here is a "Knowledge Article", in 'FamilySearch':

    Temple ordinances for unnamed children

    https://www.familysearch.org/en/help/helpcenter/article/temple-ordinances-for-unnamed-child

    As advised, in the previous 'Comment', by 'CJTobler" ...

    Where is states, among other things

    Sometimes you need to perform ordinances for someone whose name is not known.

    If you cannot find the name of a person but still want to have temple ordinances performed, enter the information below into the Name field:

    • For an individual with an unknown name or a child who died without receiving a name, enter only the last name of the father or family name into the surname field. Do not enter a first name. Do not enter Mr., Miss, son, or daughter. Be sure the sex is correctly entered as male or female.

    When the cards are printed, Mr. or Miss is added to the name.

    ------------------

    And ...

    Here is another "Knowledge Article", in 'FamilySearch', that references "Words", that DO NOT actually form part of a Child's/Infant's actual "Name"; and, should NOT be used - eg. "Infant".

    What words and abbreviations cause "Needs more information" to appear?

    https://www.familysearch.org/en/help/helpcenter/article/what-words-and-abbreviations-cause-needs-more-information-to-appear

    I hope, that this further information, may also help/assist; and, also provide some additional, insight; and, perspective.

    @Bill Juszca

    Remove the word "infant" from the first name field and then leave that field blank. The last name or surname is all that is needed. I have done the sealings for many of these cherished babies.
