Why can't a the position be switched in a merge

I would like to merge James Chatterton, 1772 – 5 August 1851•M5Y6-H2W and James Chatterton, 1772 – 5 August 1851• LHN9-682. However, FamilySearch will not let James Chatterton M5Y6-H2W be the saved person. His ordinances were completed on 17 June 1884-20 June 1884. I tried merging them a couple of months ago and the earliest dates were replaced with the later dates. I would like the earliest dates to remain.

    Hi JBurgi

There is still another ID connected to James Chattertonn that seems to be the culprit.
