Use of asterisk (*)
This may answer your question: How do I index unreadable information?
- Multiple characters. For consecutive unreadable letters or numbers, use an asterisk (*) to replace the unreadable group of letters or numbers. Example: Di*son.
You also are welcome to post the batch code to see if this is the case. Thank you for your help with indexing.1
For more information on the wildcards (the asterisk and question mark), you can read the topic How Do I Index Unreadable Information in the General Indexing Guidelines. Reviewers should especially become very familiar with these General Indexing Guidelines by clicking on each one of the links and reading these basic instructions. It is unfortunate that they have been condensed to links as opposed to having them written out, or even better to have them in one document that could be printed and reviewed frequently.0
