Filter Results ignore Ancestor Information
I was experimenting with the new Historical Records search options.
Initially, I only entered a first and last name: Johann Überrhein. I received 6,264 results. The results included the correct surname (with and without the Umlaut). Many of them are from places in the state of Baden, Germany.
When I went to apply a filter by residence, the only option for states within Germany was Bavaria.
When I applied just the first level for residence - Continental Europe - the results only return individuals with the surname Aberham and variations, but no Überrhein surnames.
There appears to be a disconnect in the filter page which is not connecting to the Ancestor Information found in the right column.

I think the problem is that you're filtering on residence, but most of the records do not have a residence field. They have birth/baptism/christening, marriage, and death/burial place fields.
One option for narrowing things just to Baden is to use the "Restrict Records by - Location" fields in the More Options search pane. I get 557 results for Johann Überrhein in Germany, Baden (https://www.familysearch.org/search/record/results?count=20&q.givenName=Johann&q.recordCountry=Germany&q.recordSubcountry=Germany%2CBaden&q.surname=%C3%9Cberrhein).
The other option is to filter the list multiple times: once for birthplace (104 results), once for marriage place (54 results), once for death place (72 results), and once for "other" place (87 results).
(It'd be interesting to figure out what the other 240 records are that show up for Location = Baden but not for any of the Place filters.)

Even before the new version, I almost always started searching from a location. I just tried your search, but first I selected Germany from the location option on the landing page. Before narrowing the options, I have 1,125 options for Johan Uberhein, most in Mannheim, Baden.

Thanks. I realized my interpretation of "Residence" was different than the program's. I was equating residence to location or place. As @Julia Szent-Györgyi mentioned, most records do not include a residence field.
