when did you start doing this??
"You may reserve up to 300 temple ordinances. In order to request this family name, please complete or share ordinances in your reservation list."
how do I remember the people who need ordinances done unless I reserve them? I share tons of names with the temple and I do a lot of research. Do I have to start writing down every name I finish that needs work done in order to reserve it? This does not make any sense to me at all. I realize that with temples being closed and people doing more research has caused a backlog of getting ordinances down, but why penalize us when we have more than 300 temple ordinances?
Please advise as to what I need to do to remember this person who I am related to if I can't reserve the ordinance?

Select "family tree" and then "following" from the homepage to get to the Following list,
Another way to get to the Following list is near the top of a person's page, just above his or her name. You will see these words: Overview Tree Recents Find Following My contributions Click on the word "Following" there.
When you get to the Following list, Click on the word "options". Different filters & labels are available there. There are 10 created labels available plus 10 additional labels that you can customize. (I personally needed more than 10 custom labels, so I use the pre-made ones as code words for other things.)
To add deceased people to your Following list: Look for a small, clear star next to the word "Following" on a person's page. This can be found near the top of the page on the right hand side. It is between the words "View Tree" and "View My Relationship". Click on the word "Following". The person will then be added to your Following list. After clicking on the word "Following" you will see that the star darkens. That tells you the person is on your Following list.
Another way to add someone to your Following list: When you click on a person's name & a small information box appears, look for a small, clear star just below the person's name or at the bottom of the information box. Click on the star to add the person to your Following list.
Additional information: Immediately after adding someone to your Following list, a small message will appear at or near the bottom of your screen confirming the action was done. On the message will be the option to add a label. Adding a label then will save you much time later. Click on the words "Add Label". A new window will open for the Following list. Within a moment or so, the person's name & label options will appear. You can then add (or create & add) the label you want to apply to that person. You will need to wait a moment for this action to happen & then click the word "SAVE". btw, it is possible to add more than 1 label to a person in your list.
To remove someone from your list, the options are to either click on the word "unfollow", or click on the darkened star
Hope these instructions help you. :)

Hello Chris,
This link should answer your question.
how many reservations you have. When this number reaches 300, you will have reached your limit. (Note: The Shared with the Temple tab has a separate count that does not apply toward your limit.)
If you try to reserve an ordinance after reaching the limit, you will be notified that you have reached the limit.
If you need anymore help please let me know.

@christine keeler You may wish to check this link. Which hopefully will give you further information.
How many family names can I reserve? Is there a reservation limit?

Perhaps adding the new names to your "following" list might be helpful. You can apply a premade or custom label to the name that would identify which family line they belong to, or some other bit of information.
Of course, there are other options that other people have mentioned. And other conversation threads about the new personal reservation limit. However, I like to employ the Following list in addition to these other options.
'Hope this helps.

almost three quarters of my reserved names say this on them
Ordinances that were previously shared with the temple cannot be shared again.
so why should this count for a reserved name still?
thanks for responding
Chris

That notification means that you have reserved an ordinance that another user had shared to the temple list already. Your reservation is for 90-days. You cannot share it to the temple list again, since it is already on the list. You will need to unreserve this ordinance for it to return to its current place on the list and for another user to reserve it to quickly complete it.

If you have the question of, "What happens if my reservation list is already over the limit?"
This is the answer:
If your list already has more than the allowed number of reservations when the new update is put in place, none of your family names will be automatically released. They will all remain on your list until their expiration date. When the reservation expires, the ordinances will be shared with the temple but will also be available in the Family Tree and through Ordinances Ready for relatives to find and reserve.
Family members and others going to the temple will then be able to help perform the ordinances. A family name that is shared with the temple can be unshared at any time, as long as your reservation list is below the limit and the ordinance has not been printed or completed.

I feel that this is a little unfair to those individuals who do the research on their family to do their ordinances just to not be able to do them as them have too many names? I share what I can, I would to go to the temple to do them all but struggle with getting to the temple to do them.

You can share with the temple then, if you need names for a temple trip, look through your shared list and unshare. The 300 limit is only for the Not printed names you have not shared with anyone.

@Tim Manners Are you saying if we have printed the ordinances on our own reservation page but not completed them yet, they do not count toward the 300? Only the NOT PRINTED ones count toward it? I'm confused. Can you please clarify?

@christine keeler Many are frustrated with this because it can be a bit confusing. Please read the following post that I copied from another patron. It is BEAUTIFULLY explained. There are definitely ways to work with the 300 limit and still keep reserving names for sharing with the temple and for others to do! I promise!

If you found a name that had a green temple with an icon in the center (meaning someone else had reserved it then shared it with the temple), and claimed the reservation, it will be on your list with that notification. If you had previously shared a name with the temple, then unshared it so it was back on your reservation page, it will have that message. Those names have 90 days to complete before they are released from your reservation list. So do that sparingly! Feel free to write those names/ID's down if you don't get to that so you can go in and reserve them again and share them if you cannot get them done on time. But the best practice would be to not claim ones in the temple reserved unless you can complete them in 90 days.
Does that make sense?

This was one of the worst ideas in the history of this program, an absolute embarrassment

Why is it a bad idea? Instead of one person needing to personally complete a thousand ordinances in two years, that person is being required to allow his relatives to at least have the opportunity to help out with 1300 of them.

@Ericcjohnson it is simply a matter of getting used to doing it differently. I have made adjustments, keep my personal list between 250 and 280 and have not had a break in the flow of my research or my reservations, because I keep taking names to the temple and keep sharing names with the temple. When I want to do ones that I have shared, I simply unshare them and complete the ordinances. It has been seamless and it can be seamless for everyone, but it will take a bit of work getting used to it. I'm sorry this frustrates you so much, but it truly works wonderfully and it also encourages people to share their names as well as get the work completed in a timely manner.

@ifyerhappyanduknowit That's nice if it works for you, but I'm not you. Before this garbage update I came across a pocket of about 1000+ people. I COULD have gone through and 1 by 1 typed out their ID numbers but that would have taken months. Instead, I requested all ordinances (which took maybe an hour), so I could go back through and double check all of them before submitting/printing. Now my list is frozen, and if I come across a spouse for one of these people, I can't add/request/submit, I have to manually keep track of the ID number until I clear out my entire queue before I get under 300. It doesn't encourage anything, it punishes people who actually work on their trees, and now has set me back easily a year to meet this terrible standard.

@Ericcjohnson I'm so sorry this is such a frustration, truly. I'm just trying to stay positive. I have copied the URL for different family trees and as I get temple work done, I click on one of the copied URLs and reserve more. I got down to a workable amount by sharing a TON of my work with the temple, then going through my lists that way, just like you were doing after you saved your 1000 people to your list. They are just as accessible and I bring them over to my list as I can get the work done. I work with thousands on my lists as well, and I'm just trying to share ways to make it work while tweaks are being made as FamilySearch hears the comments/complaints/suggestions from the users. It took me about 45 minutes to go through my list and click on the ones I wanted to share with the temple, which was over 1000 names, and I was at a workable amount on my personal list. It hasn't set me back at all. I do spend a bit more time swapping them from one list to another, but it IS a workable solution as changes continue to be made. I have had no interruption in my work and I'm just trying to positively share how it can work for others as well so our work can keep moving forward.
Thanks for all the wonderful work you do!

@ifyerhappyanduknowit Yeah that doesn't work, especially if I work on 1 name, and find 50-100 more just associated with that 1, which is why I don't want to blindly send everything on and THEN come back to them. It could take me 5 years just to get under 300. Not to mention all of these lines of "already merged, please unreserve", which that's great if it did, I still have valid ordinances on the name, and there's NO work around that. Those waste of error messages alone are a good 50 of my 300 lines. This is THE DUMBEST UPDATE
