Beginning Monday, April 10th the temple category will only be viewable to Church members who must be logged into their member account to see it.

Do we consolidate the FamilySerach ID#s of a decased family member who is a Church member?

I understand the Ward Clerk will mark the membership record as "deceased" upon receipt of the notice of death for a ward member. In turn, information is sent to FamilySearch and a new ID# will be established for the deceased member. Such a new ID# is different from the ID# as shown on the Family Tree of the deceased individual. Am I correct that a family member needs to merge the two ID#s for the deceased individual?

Hi Patrick.
You are correct in having to merge the IDs

It is 'Brett' again.
Just is passing ...
It is MOST likely, that a Member of the Church, who passes away, ALREADY has a Principal 'FamilySearch Person Identifier' (PID), associated with their Membership Record, in the Church; especially, if they have a 'FamilySearch' Account.
And, it is, that Principal PID, associated with their Membership Record in the Church; especially, if they have a 'FamilySearch' Account, that WILL be the "Record", of that Member of the Church, who passes away, that is "Marked" (from "Living", to); as, "Deceased", by 'FamilySearch', when (generally) the 'Clerk' of the Member's Ward/Branch, "Marks" their Membership Record, in the Church; as, "Deceased".
Preferably ...
It should be that Principal PID, associated with their Membership Record in the Church; especially, if they have a 'FamilySearch' Account, that SHOULD be "Retained"; as, the "Surviving" PID, in ANY later "Merge(s)"/"Combine(s)", for the Member of the Church, who passes away (as, THAT PID will contain any associated "Ordinance"/"Temple" Work, if any), rather than ANY of the MANY "Duplicates" (either, "Living"; and/or, "Deceased", versions) of them, in the 'FamilySearch' Accounts, of OTHER Users/Patrons (including: IMMEDIATE Family members).
Just my thoughts.
I hope this also helps, somewhat.
Brett
