What unusual nicknames have you found in your family?
Most of us know that the nickname Polly equals the regular name Mary; Dick refers to Richard; Bill goes to William; Margaret equals Maggie or Marge. Did you know that Daisy is also a nickname for Margaret? It comes from the French word 'Marguerite' which means Daisy.
On the other hand, my nieces and nephews know me as 'Aunt Nan' and yet my niece, Savanna is also nicknamed 'Nan.' Best of all, I found Behethilon Combs (female) in Fauquier county, Virginia whose nickname was 'Hethy.' It was explained in a Chancery case splitting up her grandmother's dower property.
