Sealing a Child to Divorced Parents

I have a sealing to parent question of which I can't find the answer. I have checked the knowledge documents in the Help Center, but can't find anything that addresses the following:

Suppose the parents of a child, who was not born in the covenant, get a divorce. Both parents later marry other spouses and are sealed to their new spouses. To whom is the child sealed? Are his biological parents sealed to each other (even though they had a divorce) and then he's sealed to them? Or, is the child sealed to mother and her new spouse and/or the father and his new spouse?

This is a question I was asked in a FamilySearch class I am teaching and I want to give the correct answer.

Thanks

One final comment, all parties are deceased.

Hi, these help articles may apply:

Policies for sealing deceased children to deceased parents https://www.familysearch.org/en/help/helpcenter/article/policies-for-sealing-deceased-children-to-deceased-parents

”Can a Divorced couple be sealed?” https://www.familysearch.org/en/help/helpcenter/article/can-a-divorced-couple-be-sealed

And “Policy regarding a deceased woman being sealed to more than one deceased husband” https://www.familysearch.org/en/help/helpcenter/article/policy-regarding-a-deceased-woman-being-sealed-to-more-than-one-deceased-husband

A great resource is the Church Policies link which can be found in “helper resources” https://www.familysearch.org/en/help/helpcenter/church-policies

Regarding the policy for sealing deceased children to deceased parents. Am I reading it correctly to decide that a child can be sealed to more than one set of parents -- biological parents and to stepparents?

Yes. It may be necessary to change the preferred set of parents.

    Hello @dcragun

Yes, you are reading the policy correctly. Children can be sealed to more than one set of parents:

"A deceased child is usually sealed to birth or adoptive parents. Where justification exists, deceased children may also be sealed to stepparents, foster parents, or grandparents. A deceased child can also be sealed to a couple who intended to adopt the child but could not complete the adoption before the death of the child."
