See batch M38T-3CX The last entry says Curtis and Co. Do I index Curtis as the surname with no given name and ignore the surname of Guild? Thanks

    Hi Cindie.

No one has responded to your question, so I’ll give it a shot.

I don’t work on these records, and I can’t access your batch now so maybe you’ve submitted it. But I do remember looking at it and the instruction below from the What to Remember section of the PI. In the spirit of the instruction, the Curtis & Co, and the description (not a surname) of the entity as a Guild, I would not have indexed it. It is an organization or association - not a person.

    • Index all names except those listed in the "Owner" or "Remarks" columns, or names of companies or trusts. Often, names of owners appear on the right side of the image; these names should not be indexed.

I quit indexing the Boston Tax Indexes because the instructions were ambiguous. I never landed on a strategy that felt like the 'right' way.

There are quite a few to choose from. I'm sure you'll find one that you'll enjoy and be comfortable working on.
