Can a parent sealing be used to reconnect someone to parent

Because of an incorrect merger, someone's parents were incorrectly changed. The SP now states to the side "this sealing-to-parents ordinance is valid. The parents are not listed either because of privacy or because they do not match the parents listed in Family Tree.". I am going detach the person from the incorrect parents, but is there a way to restore to correct parents to whom the sealing was done?

You say that the problem has arisen due to an incorrect merge. Have you attempted to undo the merge? This is not always possible but should be tried before any other action is taken. Look at the Latest Changes section on the right of the person screen. If necessary click on Show All at the bottom of the section.

If you are not sure feel free to post here again and include the ID number of the person concerned.

Yes, I undid the merge. The two merged individuals were LHP2-RJK (who is my ancestor) and KGVK-C2B with KGVK-C2B as the surviving person. LHP-2-RJK's parents were listed as KGVK-C2B's parents, and upon reversing the merger (and me reattaching the parents to LHP2-RJK) no parents are attached to KGVK-C2B. KGVK-C2B is no relation of mine, but I hate to leave her in limbo where apparently sometime in the past her parents were identified. FYI, the two merged people have totally different names, and although I have no birthdate, the marriage date of one is 21 years before the birthdate of the other.

Looking at Sarah Coppard (KGVK-C2B ), her mother is listed as Mary with no father. Furthermore her christening date and place is guestimated based on her place of marriage. So it is not surprising that no parents are listed. Where Mary the mother came from is unclear. Perhaps a burial record?

The whole thing looks a mess. Cheshire and Kent are not close! Dates are out too. Personally I would not feel bad about leaving Sarah as she is. You could send a message to janiceyvonnepoona1 who did the merge and so Michele Wells who added the christening information more recently, to explain what you have done. Leave it to them after that.

    Regards

    Graham
